Not so cold here

I really feel for all of you that live in cold country. I know you all love where you live. So do I. I live in South East Az and the temp here was 61*F today. With the work I do, I have lived in Montana, Colorado, Utah, Alaska, Wisconsin, Northern Nevada, etc. and I would never live in any cold state again for all the tea in china. Today, I adjusted the brakes on my 2N and worked on the 9N that I am in the process of rebuilding. Outside and in my shop with the doors open for light. Here, ice has never destroyed my trees, I have never moved snow, I have never slid off the road and I have to stay indoors for only a few days a year because of the cold. I also enjoy the change of seasons, from cool to hot. I get to work outdoors almost all year. Wouldn't change it fot nothing.

How many clothes can you take off to cool down from 105 degrees 4 months out of the year?

How's your water supply? You suppose that it'll be one of the big problems in AZ? Maybe it is now? Betcha you've had 115 degree weather in the summer....that's a tad warm.

I live near Wickenburg Az. in pretty much the center of Az. at 1200 Ft. Elevation and for me it was not a pleasant day with winds and a high of 52'from a low over night of 42'.I saw a little snow in the air but nothing accumulating up on the Rim at Peeples Valley today. That is around 4500 Ft.Elevation. The wind up there was Raw. it felt real good to get back in the Truck after a stop. We pay $190.00 a month year around on a Budget Plan for Electricity. Our AC runs constant in the Summer and the NG Furnace runs as needed in the colder months. Our Budget Bill for NG is $ 45.00 per month year around. We enjoy living in Arizona and don't think our comfort cost is too extreme. ILL.is our Home State and I just saw the Temp for our former Zip, It is 17 Degrees at that Zip and it is only the middle of December.

No problem with water. We have our own well which is 380' deep and the place where I live is right smack in the middle of a mountain watershed. Our elevation is 4500' so it doesn't get as hot as Tucson. 100,101 degrees usually. Very easy to work in. Keep hydrated and wear a hat.Cooling our home is not expensive. We use swamp coolers here. our home has two, usually only one going most of the time. I still get to work or play outside 90% 0f the year.

Well maybe he's looking at retiring there and wants information. Then again maybe he's comparing it to SD or MT in the summer when they get that 100degree puls heat about wheat cutting time. LOL

Richard SE AZ please don't tell people how nice it is here. We have more people than we need now. hehe Bo about taking off clothes when it gets warm the high school and college girls start in March and by April it is a full time job watching all of them but we will do our best.

Hi Richard,
Sure sounds good about now, I'm in SE Mass, No comparison. My brother used to live out in Cochise Co. between Dragoon and Willcox. I really enjoyed spending time there. He ended up moving to Fla. to be closer to his in-laws when he retired. He worked in Tucson and wifey didn't like being out there alone after the kids grew up as they had a lot of wandering travelers from south of the border crossing through the property. I'd love to get back that way when I retire if it hasn't gotten too citified.
Have fun on your tractors, Jf

Here by the Colorado River (I can see NV and CA from my house) it gets up to 128 degrees sometimes in July and August, but it's a dry heat. Usually closer to 115, but some days can really scorch! Keep hydrated and try to stay in the shade and it isn't too bad. No different than what you do in the winter when it's cold, except we go from AC in the house to AC in the car, etc.

Electric bill during the summer was just over $200 one month for me. 1450 square feet, stucco, tile roof, new house. I believe that bill was for August, the next one was around $190, then $160, and I think the last one was just over $100. We went pretty much the whole month of October with hardly any AC or heat. Full electric house.

Neighbors have wood burners for heat this time of year. I don't like the smell or the smoke and removing the fireplace from our house plans gave us a pretty good credit so we left it out. Safer house with no fire as well -- less chance of fire or CO poisoning.

Water bill is usually under $20 for around 4000 gallons. Last month they claimed I used 53,000 gallons at a cost of $127 - they read the meter incorrectly.

As to how many clothes to take off... I wear a light T-shirt and shorts up until the end of November usually. It's really not all that bad, you just spend more time inside.
