OT-- But a concern to many

How many of you get "toll free" calls? I am on the DNC list. For several months, I have been getting a call from 800-383-0305. They do not leave a message and will not answer when I have answered. The last two digets in the number are different on many calls. I did a search on the number and found that thousands of people get this call daily and they have found nothing can be done to stop. Blocking this number by the phone compan cost money every month and as I said, the last two or three digets are changed frequently.
Thanks for letting me vent.

We've been getting two very annoying calls, both automated. One wants to give me lower interest on my credit cards, other is about my about-to-expire car warranty. Both of them want you to push a key on your phone which transfers their call to an live operator. They will then argue with you, that they didn't call you, you called them. Been on the DNC list since it started. Updated regularly. I don't have caller ID, so I can't fix the number they're calling from. If you have the number, go to donotcall.gov, and file a complaint every time they call. Some of those telemarketers got some hefty fines a while back.

"this is your final notice regarding your car's warranty" yeah right, they've been calling daily for the last 2 years with that one. If they knew the old clunkers my family drives, they wouldn't bother. HEHE.

The other really annoying ones is for satelite tv service and debt reduction/credit card offers.

I think you would have much better luck becoming a telemarketer. I have seen telemarketing jobs advertised in the paper that pay around $9 an hour. Then you could call your own house and know who's calling. :')

i'm with ya on that one, our home phone rings from about noon till 9 pm, couple calls every hour, telemarketers. we are on the do not call list. didnt help....so we just let the ans machine get it, and listen if its somebody we know. at the shop we get blocked calls that have nobody there, just a few quick beeps and they hang up.an then the telemarkers trying to sell junk. real nice when you are under a car, have to climb out and run to the phone, and some clod wants to talk about health insurance or some nonsense program. i called the phone company, they said that it is call center computers that call out, and they cant stop them. its my phones, i pay for them and some knot head wastes my time. there should be a law!!!!! oh geez our governor prolly sold all that down the pipes too!!!!

what i do, i hit the number to talk to live operator and then i ask for the company name, address, their name(whom i am talking to) usually then they ask me what i want their name for. i tell them i am on the do not call list and will be filing a lawsuit with their name on it, they hang up and 8 chances out of 10, i stop getting the calls. worked for direct tv and that stupid car insurance thing.

Don't know about that, but every morning at 8:04 to 8:06am,I get an automated call that's nothing but static. Been happening for months.

the loopholes in the do not call list are companies you are doing or have done business with in the last year or somesuch.
often these are subdsidiary companies.
Political and non profits are also exempt.

I am on a state and national do not call and almost never get any calls outside of those exceptions/loopholes.

Unlisted number, Caller ID, and an answering machine are my tools. Don't get too many calls and if we don't know the number on the caller ID then it goes to the machine. We pick up only if we know the number or the voice on the machine.

I used to get calls from an outfit trying to sell me pens or whatever they could put my name on. I tried their games of calling to have my name removed from their list and so on with no help. Finally when they called I order about $900 worth of personalized stuff sent to me COD. When the printer called to verify the spelling I told him that I planned to refuse it and send it back. Now that got their attention. I told them I was going to do it everytime they called until they quit. Never heard from them again. You gotta hit them where it hurts.

If you are trying to get on the DO NOT CALL list.
888 382-1222 . You must call fron the cell phone that you want blocked. Recorded message tells you if you receieve call,(after 30 days) then call a number to report fraud. The above number if the FCC

If it is a live person on the other end, I used to say, "wait until you hear the sound of the click" (then hang up) but that just freed them up to bother someone else. I now tell them that I need to go find my credit card. They hang on for 5 minutes or so before they give up.

I also stuff all the junk back into the payment envelopes that comes with the phone bill, etc.

If it is a slow day, I collect scraps of paper from around the house and stuff it into any Business Reply mail envelopes that I recieved that day.

I am slowly filling their land fills instead of mine. Also, think of the time it wastes since they have to sort through the junk to see if something valuable is in the envelope.

One thing I've found is effective, is when caller ID shows a call I suspect is a telemarketer, I answer the phone in Japanese, and begin talking in Japanese. It blows them out of the water.

I'm not really fluent in Japanese, I just know enough of the basics to harass telemarketers. Once when I was speaking Japanese, one guy actually kept asking me in English if I spoke Spanish. Another guy got his supervisor and as I wasn't doing anything important at the time, I managed to tie both of them up for about 15 minutes. In fact, they finally hung up.

When I talk to a live person, I seldom hear from them a second time.

yea, i get these FFen calls to, drives me nuts,i got call display, so now i ignore them, nobody answers anyway, even after hanging up on them the phone keeps ringing.I wonder what purpose it serves?
All it says on call display is the name of the state it originates from, the # is often all zero's .Mind you i live in northern Canada.phone company says its out of country, notting can be done. All other telemarketers i cuss out as loud as i can,I hope it blows their eardrums.

I think these friggin phone companies can easy as sh!t stop them, but hey these callers generate income right,so why should they butcher the golden egg laying goose eh.

A buddys wife was a telemarketer for a large company, she said she needed a job real bad. I warned her that if she ever called me I would post her home phone number in the post office, and every business in town. WITH a message of ..Would you like to get even with a telemarketer? Call this number as often as you can.

She did feel pretty bad doing her job, and her pay check reflected how efficent she was.

I'm on the DNC list and get very few, maybe two a year. If they call you take the time to visit, that costs the company money.

I'm a very lucky guy..You can't imagine how many times I qualify to win alot of money because I was the 1,000,000 person to log on. I'd say that just has to be a streak of good luck! An you folks thought I wasn't real smart! How many of you are that darn lucky? Besides it sure makes me feel wanted and important when the congradulate me.

One of my friends uses one of those blast horns with the aerosol can on the bottom. They usually don't call back.

I hate the calls that call you and put you on hold for the next avalable operator. I usually wait patiently then who evem answers gets a cussin of their life. Ask them who the hell do they think they are calling me and putting me on hold.
One lady asked one time, do you like yelling at people.
Oh by the way put me on the no call list and have a nice day.
I'm on the state and fed no call lists, but I imagine that they casterated these like everything else.

i called and raised hell with tel. company once about the same prob. the way it works is the telemarketers have a system where at least 4 numbers are dialed at once, whoever picks up first gets the call, all others are hung up on and put back into the mix to be called again at later date, and yea, it makes the phone comp. a ton of money....

I feel sorry for those telemarketers that actually make the calls, not the slime bag companies that employ them but the poor saps who actually make the calls, probably that is the best way they can find to feed their family. I can screen those calls out on the caller ID, also sometimes, when they get going on their spiel, i just say Hey, hows the kids? or How's the dog? Makes them skip a beat, then they usually hang up quick since they have a boss who listens in. But talk about not giving up, I keep getting calls from NRA, usually 4 or 5 a day. I wass in it once about 5 years ago, but dropped the membership, mow for almost 5 years, they just keep calling. I pick up the phone, push the answer button and the hang up button, but they just don't get it. No do not call list works here, since if you had a "prior business relationship" that makes you fair game for the company or any subsidiaries.

Since you know the number call it find out who it is and if it's a company you do or have done business with then stop the association then put the number on the 'no call' list.
'800' numbers used to be WATS routing numbers. I haven't figured out how they send that number as an originating number but they happens. The government is always there to 'hep ya.'

Because of my job I have to keep close tabs on the weather. I guess that is what genenerated my last call. I was home later than normal going to work. The phone rang and some guy asked me the same question again. I got mad this time. I hollered," I live in Iowa you fool, How in the hill do I know if the coast is clear!!"

Believe it or not, when I was younger I started flirting with a telemarketer one time. Turns out she lived nearby, we dated for awhile.
Don't suppose the wife would be too happy if I did that now...

Everybody hates telemarketers. I think someone has to be truly desparate to take that kind of a job. So I'm not rude, just say no thanks, and hang up so we can both move on.
