need help just bougt me first 8n

A lot more info is needed for us to be able to help you. From what you have said your problem could be about 10 different things. Switch, coil, wiring, plug wires, rotor, cap, and a bunch more. Pretty much need to know the year, battery type 6 or 12 volt and if its a front of side mount distributor
Hobby farm

It is a front mount distributor, 12 volt system, I was mowing and it quit. I believe the resistor between the coil packs and ignition went out. So i by passed it, tractor ran for 20 minutes then died and now I have no fire from spark plugs. What have I done??????

by-passing resistor was prob. a bad move--damage to coil-points-cond possible, charging system is most likly delco conversion, pushing plenty amps to dist.go to N-board, those guys can tell you what voltage you need & a resistor set-up.

What have you done?

Burnt out your coil with too much voltage.
Fix the resistor problem (replace it), get a new coil, and all will be good.

BTDT - twice!

That resistor is pretty important- if it wasn't needed, it wouldn't be there. "Field expedient" fixes on electrical components often just leads to letting the smoke out of some other component- either on the spot (and in your face) when you hook up the bypass, or in fairly short order. This becomes more important on computer controlled stuff in later model rigs- one false move can run you about 2 grand in cooked goodies.
