Toro Snowblower

Ok..need some help with a Toro snowblower, 2o yrs old, 2 stage, 5HP, all of a sudden it stopped driving. The auger works ok, but the wheels won't drive it. I replaced the drive belt, still won't drive. If i hold it in the air and push the handle the wheels turn, but when on the ground it's like it doesn't have the ump to turn the tire to move it, does that make sense.? HELP
Any ideas?

I had one where the tire was solid rubber and the wheel was metal. The wheel would spin in the rubber tire and the tire would not move.

It may be like the snapper SP lawnmower-with a stationary metal wheel spinning, and a rubber, adjustable, wheel at 90 degrees from the other. My old JCPenneys (Ariens) had that, and the rubber wheel in the SP system got glazed and acted just like that. Had to replace the rubber part of that system. Greg

Keyway.?.Not sure what that is, but i am sure i can figure it out, apparently i have to take the tires off..right? I know..I'm just a woman..lol
Can you explain what i need to do..I appreciate your quick reply.

Do you think the traction drive needs adjustment, because from what I am reading in the manual, it is saying if the snowblower does not drive after changing belt, check the traction drive adjustment..Just trying to learn this stuff on my own without having to pay someone, because I know if it's something simple, the dealers will charge an arm and a leg regardless.

A keyway is like a groove in the axle. The wheel would have a similar groove in it. A small piece of keystock fits in these grooves so that the wheel won't slip on the axle. Sometimes the key(stock) will magically come out or break or the keyway(groove) will get damaged and allow the axle to spin inside the wheel. It does sound like you just need to adjust the drive system though. Dave

On some of these machines there is an adjustment to put more presure on the drive disk where it meets the metal disk.

Look down the rod coming down from the drive clutch hand grip, where it ends in a metal bracket there MAY be a nut that controls drive tension. If I remember correctly tightening the nut ( turning it clockwise ) increase drive tension.

I hope this helps you.

Yes, that helps me alot..I am somewhat mechanical and can understand what you are saying. I will check that out. Thanks everyone for your input, appreciate it.

Just wanted to let you know that I think you might be right also..I was just checking the snowblower out and noticed as I engaged the handle, the center is spinning while on the ground. So how do I get to the keyway, to fix it? I know I have to take both tires off, right? And then what? Thanks for your help in advance..appreciate it.
