OT-where to get a truck jack

My son found out the hard way that he does not have a jack for his 03 Dodge Ram. I'm sure most any truck jack will work but where are they sold? Dealership wants $200 and parts place don't sell them. Regular little jacks do not reach high enough for a truck.

If I need to lift with the bottle jack and it's too short, I just place some good blocks underneath it to build it up. I've seen some pretty nice 2-2 1/2-&3 ton floor jacks lately at Fleet Farm and Automotive Supply lately, and priced a little under $200.

Whenever we get our shop built I plan to buy atleast 1.

Savage yard for the OE jack, but i have a 99 Ram, and the OE jack is the slow screw type!! I now carry a 4t bottle jack, and a few blocks in the back, and a piece of board... useful if your likely to be on soft ground. I found out the hard way that mine had the adapter tube to lower the spare missing. A PITA to lower the spare with vice grips laying in the gravel.

I keep a 20 ton bottle jack and some blocks in my truck, that way I'm set for equipment too. If you're patient here you can usually get one on sale for $30-40

While he's at it, suggest he might want to get a better tire wrench.

I think I'd get a 2.5 ton floor jack or at least a bottle jack and stick it behind the seat. There's lots of room back there for either one in those trucks.
Then you have a jack.

I second the better wrench suggestion. Also keep some anti-sieze on the threads, and watch the torque. First flat i got was on a -20 December night, and snapped off two of the five lug nuts.

My son had a Jeep that I bought for him, and it had no jack. He bought a SMALL floor jack from Sears. It only weighs about 15-20 lbs, 1.5 ton lift and raises about 14". He got rid of the Jeep and still has the jack, and has only had to use it twice, but was glad he had it!

Don't people shop salvage yards anymore?? $10 will get you one with the right tool to lower the spare, and $20 will get you 4 way wrench with enough leverage to get the lugs off. I really believe some people shouldn't be allowed to breed.

if you want the one the truck came with, like the other poster said go to a wrecking yard and get the whole kit, id give you mine but when i bought my 94, i looked at the jack and gave it to the kid for a toy, and i dont know what he did with it, he's grown up and in the navy now, i always put a new hydraulic bottle jack in the tool box, along with a big 4 way so i can change tires on the truck as well as whatever its hooked to, and put the spare tire in the bed so i can get it when i have a flat in the mud or snow, the little bed space it takes up is nothing compared to snow or mud in your pants or down your back while you fight the rusted up spare tire winch under the truck
