OT: putting gas in '05 sliverado

I recently bought a 2005 chevy 1500 sivlerado Z71. It is almost impossible to to put gas into the tank. Anything more than just barely pulling the handle at the gas pump and it pump kicks off. I looked to make sure the filler neck wasn't kinked or crimped. I'm able to blow air backwards through the vent line that attaches at the filler neck. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?

you may need to pull the whole filler neck off down to the fuel tank. there may be something in there blocking the line, maybe trapped at the anti-siphon screen. could be kids stuck something in there.

have you tried to put the hose in a different position? I had that problem and when i barely stick the filler hose in it goes away and takes gas normal

I have had this problem with some vehicles. In many cases, I can use a different pump with no problems. Are you using the same nozzle every time?

I had the same problem a few years back with a Ford truck, but in that case I created the problem myself. The gas tank had rusted out and I was putting a new tank in. The old tank had this plastic tube that goes inside the filler neck. I thought what do I need that for? So I didn't put it in when I installed the new tank. Found out quickly what function it had.

I"ve got a 2004 that has done that same way since I bought it [used] in 2006.
I have been told it is some type of vent valve, and is common on these trucks.
I checked my filler pipe and vent hose, they are o.k.
Some pumps seem to be a little bit better but I usually get a few "kickbacks" at the best.
I think Google has a few links to the problem.

I can't tell you the number of vapor cannisters and vent valves I've put in GM trucks for hard to fill w/gas or P0446. There is a bulletin on relocating the air intake for the vent valve up to the transmission area. My experience is they don't come back with a P0446 if you relocate the vent clear up to the master cylinder area under the hood.
Problem is they suck road dust in through the valve and it clogs the carbon cannister. Thats the reason for the relocated vent.
