i have a question???

if i hooked my dads 9n to my f-12 up who do you think would win???????

i think the old f-12 would ;)

thanks everyone

If you do this , be sure that you put it on youtube.... Ive gotta see that... make the title "shook hands with danger" Words of advice.. When you ask these guys on this forum you might ask " What has more power A 9N ford tractor OR A F12 tractor ???? Dont do it ......

Danger danger will robinson.jk

in my experience with the ford you may want a wheelie bar they have enough power to go over so if you do it think it through.

HP wise the Ford would have it. Weight wise the F-12. My dad told me of a story where one of his dads friends had a Farmall 10-20 or so thing like that and his dad had a 9N. They hooked them up draw bar to draw bar. The 9N having a 3 point draw bar of course. Well the story went the 9N pulled the 10-20 all over the place because the 3 point was able to lift just enough to keep the 10-20 from getting traction. Now how true that was I do not know

Other then cutting grass or scraping a driveway the 8 and 9 ns are a waste. Everyone i know that has bought one has sold it , they all said it just didn"t have the power.

I"m sure there is a function that these tractors shine , but we havn"t seen it yet.

There was a guy here in Michigan that set his up for pulling, bored and stroked with a ton of money in it. It was for sale last summer ,people who knew him said it was a waste of money and time.

Being open minded i would say the I.H being heavyer and longer wheel base would be a better tractor out of these two.

Dunno about a "tail-to-tail" pull, but most of the time, the people who bash the "N" Series Fords haven't really been around them much.....

A more fair test would be to put them each on a 5 acre plot and see which finished plowing 1st.

Seriously comparing tractors by which can pull more stopped being useful with the creation of the 3pt.

I would think the ford would win. As for as raising the 3pt drawbar to outpull the 10-20 I don't think that would work as heavy as the 10-20's were. Plus that would make the front of the ford want to come up.

Try it and let us know!!

Just a little back ground about my father he was a preacher so did he tell the truth or not I do not know but it was his story and he is now dead so I can not ask him. Plus if you think about it a draw bar on the 3 point of an N series puts the rear of the other tractor real close so it could well lift enough to do the job needed with out lifting the front all that much

My friend sold 3 Farmalls but kept the 8n.You will catch hell for mean mouthing the 8n.8ns have done all the work on small farms for a lot of years. They have done plowing ,mowed and raked hay and pulled balers,Sawed firewood and run small sawmills.Worked skidding logs.Hauled manure spreaders, drilled post holes, run generators.I have used the 9N 2N 8N and 600 Fords.Ive run all the letter series Farmalls. All did a good job when used right.Ive worked with horses but like my Ford tractor better. It looks the small farm tractor that worked on a gallon per hour of gas and the small farm was the right way.My Ford 600 does all the work I require and an 8N would serve just as well.Playing with pulling tractors is a waste of time any way.My Ford pulls out logs for my sawmill with ease. This kind of pulling makes money instead of wasting it.

lol !!!

I'm a little slow this morning, took me a few minutes to figure it out. LOL

And I do believe you came up with the correct answer too.

Did this as a teenager. Grew up with 2 F-12's. Neighbor had a Ford 8N. Was discing our garden with the F-12 when Mike came in with the 8N, bragging about its power. We chained them drawbar to drawbar and the Farmall pulled the Ford all over the garden. The larger diameter tires on the F-12 made all the difference in traction... Gene

We did similar in Korea, in 1962, on a hard
packed Yellow Sea beach, after the tide went out.
GMC duce and a half, 6 cyl, hydramatic, front
axle engaged, versis REO Eager Beaver 6 cyl,
Continental multifuel engine, burning gas, with
5 speed transmission, front axle engaged.
The Reo pulled the GMC backward, because the
torque converter stalled, or slipped, on the GMC.
Trucks were chained with a 12 foot chain to the
pintle hitchs. Just some farm boys having fun!

the f 12 has no chance at all.

Often i have bolted together a 9n with a bigger trator,,,, raise the 3pt,,,,and always the 9n wins
This was popular in the 40s

If you're talking about chaining the N to an F-12 then the F-12 is going to pull the N, and do it easily. If the guy on the N is lucky, it won't make any traction or it'll go over on top of him.
This contest has nothing to do with power. It's about dead weight and traction. Low gear and torque will win...

When younger we did this sport a lot. For safety use two long chains and attach each to a tire. A car tire will look like a clowns mouth with the stretch.
