Bought a Reznor radiant tube heater a while back and finally about ready to install it. Have studied the owners manual and am considering doing the plumbing myself after I get it hung. Any experience or thoughts on the process would be appreciated.

I am 99.9% certain that you have to have a licensed gas fitter install a heater or anything else that uses a gas line. Dave

Not a doubt in my mind that you can hook it up safely, BUT!!! Check with your insurance agent. They may not cover the building if you hook up yourself. My insurance agent was telling me about a situation they have. Farmer brown put up a new bin, he and hired hand helped. Had local coop hook up the heater and fan. Bad connection on gas line, bin caught fire and burned shed next to bin. Coop won't pay because Farmer Brown helped and coop's installer would not have made a mistake, had to be Farmer Browns mistake. Farmer Browns insurance won't pay because coop installed and should have checked everything over. They have been fighting for a couple of years, probably end up in court. Chris

Legality of hooking it up yourself depends on local codes. In Omaha, you cannot LEGALLY run 2" of water line, but you can run 1000' of gas line. Doesn't make sense to me. Greg

An insurance company is always going to side with the least amount of risk. If they had it their way you would pay your insurance premiums and never drive your car or leave the house. Unfortunately it is the world we live in.

It might depend on the state, in MN im not sure if you need I license for gas line. In the cities minneapolis and st.paul you do need a license. Same with plumbing you can have minnesota state license but cant plumb in the cities until you get there license.
