your first aluminum scoop shovel and how light it was after using a steel shovel for so many years?

One thing about bringing a steel shovel to the job was it never "dissapeared". It was always there when it was time to home. Armand

you bet i do! and mine was even more enjoyable than most, i had a special iron shovel that the dad made just for me , i found out for 1 or 2 times that when given a digging job if i broke the shovel handle he would have to finish it, after about the 2nd time i did that, he welded a piece of iron pipe to the shovel for a handel, i never did figure out a way to destroy that, that new aluminim scoop was light as a feather compared to the "man killer"

I got my first Aluminum Scoop Shovel at a Farm sale around 1968 when I got some Cows to Milk and I needed a Shovel. It had been broke down the middle and had been welded up and worked just fine. I still have it and find it works just fine now to scoop up Rubbish when cleaning the Yard and Garden.I have had that Shovel for 40 years and hauled it from ILL to Arizona and it is a possesion I can look at and still use from my "Farming" years.

Now why does this thread remind me of this Old English show?)"You Know Howard, Howard Molson...he"s gorra new shovel , its a lovely shovel, its got a great big brass handle!" ( Mr. M. Palin, after "Python" but before A "Fish Called Wanda" )

Yep I do.

But the new ones you buy these days have such a flimzy handle you can hardy use them.

Are you kidding? These people already forgot 9-11 and voted a Muzzy into the White House.

I used my aluminum scoop a few days ago to move 40 bushels of corn. It proved to me that it really has been 30 years since I was 20:).

The only thing I can remember about the old steel scoop shovel is that it built up my forearms like Popeye!

Roy, Now I know where many of the posters on this site came from ............they're descendants of Eric Olthwaite. I've been puzzled for a long time as to what their heritage was.

A Muzzy in the White House? Hope you're not losing sleep over that .... you're living in the past buddy, get with the new world you bigot.

I still have a like new steel #16 scoop. Bought it new in 1975 to use as a dust pan in my shop. Didn't figure any one would "borrow" it.

Snow shovel? I had to use coal shovel, then take it back in the house for the furnace in basement. Still have that sucker, black tape and all. My dad had two families and I guess we were the poorer one. Think my sister got aluminum shovel for Christmas when she was little. Shovel was only 3/4 size so she couldn't help much.
