the ol'kw's got a anoying harmonic whine in the tranny when split to overdrive in the top gear and its starting to pick it up in the next down too, its a eaton 13 speed, it doesnt jump out of any gears in under, direct or overdrive ranges, and shifts well between ranges too, i remember years ago we did somthing to the stick to quiet it down but i cant remember what it was now, anybody remember? wrapping the stick in foam or a leather shift boot that comes all the way up to the shift handle hasnt done it

Used to drive a Navistar 5+2 and it was noisy like that. I took some of the foam insulation made for pipes and fitted it to the shifter and then carefully wrapped it smoothly with black electrical tape and it really helped absorb the noise and vibration.

Cut a piece of car tire sidewall (let the air out first if it is on a operating vehicle) about 2" wide and 6" long. Hose clamp it to the stick (with a helper) at one end so it looks like a tulip flower comming up(clamp on bottom) adjustment up and down tighter and looser, different places and direstions. The softer the tire rubber the better. JimN

I've found resting your hand on it quiets it some.Have heard you can buy a shifter boot that is supposed to supress the noise for $85.00
