School Back Then [revisited]-- for n8terry!!

Some of us are reminded every day of those times. less than 100 ft from my garage there is this building. my yard at one time was probably where they had recess. I think every time I sit on my front porch of how it was back then when the teacher must have tied up a buggy to the hitching post and with a feed bag or Hay they heuled for the horse and a bucket for water for it the hand pump is gone now but the well is still in service, it has a cement cover on it now but is beside the porch [ left side ].

It was used as a school til 1951, a church 1952 til 1957, then rented to a small engine repair man that mostly worked on chainsaws. AS it is now it is an Antique shop and going out of business and for sale by owner.

I won't ask the owner what he wants for it because I know he has a historical price on it and somewhat a little pricey for me, but I would hate to see it destroyed for housing's sake.

Have you ever been tempted to go over there to look for old coins ? I bet there is old coins around if there is/was a play ground ....

I have been over there but owner already scavenged with his metal detector, and found nothing of value.--?

May be he don't want me to try.

My house was built 45 years ago and a lot of the ground has been disturbed. that I would concider the playground area. when they dug my foundation.

Can you imagine the stories that the walls could tell you if the walls could talk ? It looks like the owners in the past did a great job keeping it up and it does not look like it has been altered .... Looks nice ... Larry

Thanks for posting the picture of the old school. That is interesting.

I went to a one room school when I was in the first grade back in 1948. It closed after that year. It has been standing all of these years since then until this summer when it was razed. It had been used for storage but a deteriorated roof was its downfall. It still had the old chalk board and the hooks where we hung our coats. My dad and older brother also went to school there so it was sad to see it go.

I went to s school like that. Only myself and 1
girl in the 8th grade, she was sick a lot, so
the tracher didn't do much with me, "a lost year"
but I read a whole set of encyclopedias from
A to Z that school year. Learned lots of trivia !
