transmission filter change

I've got a 98 GMC 4wd with the auto overdrive trans that is about due for a filter and oil change. I assume that it's like every other automatic that I've done, drop the pan and swap the filter? It's a 1/2 ton with the 5.7 motor. I probably should have done it a year ago but you know how it goes.....Anything weird I should be aware of?

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Some bolts are hard to get at because of crossmember.I use a 1/4" drive 13mm swivel socket and 12" extension for the hard to reach ones.

No cross member on my '91 5.7 4x4. BUT on my boys'96 Blazer there is. Be super carful taking off and putting back up. On the back, near the bottom are two small plastic solenoids.If you angle the pan up or down you might hit one. Their very fragile. I know,I damaged one Get the cross member completly out of the way and go straight u p and staight down with the pan. Good luck. DAN
