We, as a Vintage Tractor Group are planning a bus tour of about 50 members to Iowa and NW Illinois in May or September of 2009. What are some good events to take in for shows, factories, collections, or other areas that would be of interest to Tractor enthusiasts in that particular region? We are planning at this point and looking at 10 to 14 days on the road. Any ideas or help would really be appreciated. Thanks; Ellis

Deere factories and HQ at Waterloo and Rock Island.

Mt Pleasant Old Thresher's Reunion labor day weekend. Big show.

Charles City power show labor day weekend. Moderate sized show with good equipment.

Museum at Charles City, home of Oliver.

Cedar Falls show the week before labor day?

There might still be some Case or IH factory stuff in the Rock Island area.

Kinze at Williamsburg, IA.

Amanas at Amana, IA.

Amish at Kalona, Ia.

Herbert Hoover museums at West Branch, Ia.

Google can find you more lists of shows in 2009 in Iowa and Illinois.

Check Iowa tourism for a Smokestacks and Silos brochure for the regularly open museums in NE Iowa.

If you take your trip in Sept, the Antique Engine and Tractor Association in Atkinson, Ill. has a 3 day working farm show the 18,19,20 of Sept. Atkinson is about 30 miles east of Moline Ill on I80. Combining beans, picking ear corn and shelling out of crib, threshing machine running wheat, probably, and sawmill. Plowing starts after enough crops are harvested to have room enough to go. Oliver is the feature tractor and we will have help from the Midwest Oliver Collectors during the show. This is a good working show where you can see the machines doing what they were built for. Email me if you wish. Chris

Old Thrashers Reunion at Mt. Pleasent Iowa on
Labor Day weekend should have 100, or more
sream engines, and at least 1000 tractors,
but the Allis-Chalmers/Corliss power plant, with
30 foot flywheel, built like a swiss watch, and
running so quiet you can hardly hear it, is an
American engineering marvel, and well worth the
visit.
