OT-Deerhunting inPa.

Today is the 3rd day of our Buck only season in Western,Pa. On the first day I saw 1 hunter on about 1000 unpostyed acres and he was sitting as they mostly do. We heard a few shots about a mile away and saw about 4 other hunters on our 40 mile return home. I have been hunting for 46 years now and I have never seen such a poor turnout. Yesterday I hauled a tractor out of Washington ,Pa, which is about 100 miles form here.I saw one hunter. Game Commission says that 900,000 hunters went out the first 2 days, but I don't see them. Any Pa guys out there seeing the missing hunters?

As recently as 20 years ago you needed a fox hole to be safe during buck season here in northern central Pa. (Bradford county). I've lived within a mile of a large tract of state game lands most of my life and so far this hunting season I've heard 2 shots since Monday morning, from the sound of those they didn't connect with anything. Saw 2 "hunters" cruisin' up the road in a spit polished black extended cab dually with Joisey plates yesterday. See more game wardens these days than "the bad guys" they are hunting.
We've had only 2 doe around here all summer and that's all I've seen. Used to have 3 until favorite daughter clobbered 1 with my Eldorado in April.
Of course with all the safety gear required to hunt in Pa these days, it becomes the proverbial case of "hunting deer with a brass band". With the game commission so red hot to pinch the bad guys and fine them thousands of dollars, nobody is foolish enough to take the chance much less take their kid out and risk a mistake that will cost thousands. The Pa. Game commission has effectively killed hunting in Pa.

s.crum........what all kind of safety gear do they require? What kind of rules are different than 20 years ago? I used to live in S.W Pa in the early 70's. All I remember was we could only use shot guns with slugs back then and no hunting on Sundays.

I can't say this year I haven't been out. My place is near Mercer and it's obvious to everyone in the area that the deer population is about 1/3 what it use to be. Mabie people are backing off. I hope so.

I seen three buck's tied to SUV's roof racks or on the Hitch Hauls yesterday on my way home from work. Its a 20 mile drive. My neighbor got a small 8 point across the road from me. I'm in Susquehanna County. This time of year I see more Jersey plates than PA plates. :?

I'm in north central Ohio. I never could figure out all the tallies in the newspaper as it just never seemed like you saw that many hunters around ?
I am by some State wetlands which is mostly dry now unitl spring, but don't see to many cars or trucks parked along the roads ? I see plenty of deer !

I had at least 6 deer cross the road infront of me the other day. Then up the road not too far ? 100 yds. ? there was a group of hunters gathered aroung the car and I am not sure but I don't think they even saw all those deer. LOL but glad they didn't or else they may of been shooting my direction.

This morning about 10 oclock I stopped and looked at a deer laying in the ditch about a mile from my house. I would judge it to be about 300 lbs. It was still luke warm and it's belly was soft. It was just starting to get stiff. I looked to see if it was a buck or doe and low and behold it's head was gone. I'm not against deer hunting but I am against killing just for a head to hang on the wall and turning the rest of it into dog meat. Comments? rw

I was told you can hunt Buck on M,T W,T,F, and both Buck and Doe on SAT for two weeks this year. don't have to send for Doe Lic. as in the Past and a lot of [Green areas} to hunt in til Jan.?

Probably a road kill, but you never know.

Those deer of yours know that all these people from down here always go "up" to the mountains to hunt so they come down to Armstrong County for Vacation in hunting season, especially the big ones, [ I hear all the time "shoulda saw the one I missed today" seems like they like it so well here they commit suicide,by running in traffic, so they don't have to go back.
