No till drills (JD 750 vs. Haybuster)

The question down the page got me wondering about this. I have seen alot of 750 no till drills but never been round one. When I was in high school I worked for the NRCS office in the county. We had a 15' and two 10' haybusters they rented out. Some people did not like pulling the 15' down the road so they sold it. Buddy of mine bought it from the county. He used it as a spare planter durring wet springs so he could plant corn and have some one plant beans at the same time. Over 5 years it got pulled over most all his ground with a 4020. I used to bum it and used it to plant pasture seed as soon as I could get over ground in March or April with a 185 allis or 6700 ford.

Does the 750 realy pull that much harder?

Thanks

Dave

my friend has a 15' JD750 and it pulls about the same as his 8row 7000 JD planter. The thing I think youll find is weight of the JD drill becomes an issue on hills or in marginal ground.

If the 750 is set up with notill coulters and dropped into the hard untilled soil it does pull hard. As do all notill drills. Everyone that has a 13' to 16' notill drill around here has 125 to 175 hp on the front no mather the brand of drill.

The weight of the drill fully loaded with seed is heavy as well.

They all run duals as well and some even have front wheel drive on them.

I have a 3pt mounted 15' great plains with no notill coulters and the 856 struggled with it on the flat.

The 1086 pulls it fine. Lot of down pressure on these newer drills to keep the seed in the ground.

I respect you Gary and everybody elses opinion on the no till HP,but I think it is being oversold.Like I said in the other post,I pulled 15 and one yr.a 20 ft.Deere drills with a 14,000 Lb.80?HP 4030 JD for around 20 Yrs..(300-500 A.a yr.) Because they were Rented or leased(Cheaper and you all ways had a new drill)I got to play with diff.makes,Deere,Krause,Great Plains and Case-Int.The only times I went with more HP and Wt.was in wet conditions.I have a couple neighbors pulling 45Ft.Deere No Till air seeders with 4640s just fine.Sorry for a long post but other then wet cond.100HP is enough,Wt.is more important then HP.

The neighbor has pulled his Deere 750 with his Deere 2940 tractor just fine. His 1066 handles it on the road a lot better and in the sandy areas. Plus you can go faster.
