Guess I messed that up never thought anybody would look at the pick who hadn't seen the first post. Its not a Ford, Its an Essex 1927, 6cyl flathead wood spoke wheels, leather roof. I put it up
on blocks today so I could get under it. It doesn't run, but the engine is not set up. Both front spring shackles are busted, needs a passenger side door handle, upholstery is shot, front springs need to be rearched, but that's all I have found wrong so far. Exhaust system is good, tires are good surface rust on the body steering is tight windows are origional and good wood spokes are good. I think it will be a good investment. Already had a guy ask to buy it.

If you haven't already, you'll want to join the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club; good people and lots of advice and sympathy.
Let's see: Essex didn't have that good a reputation, used to be called the A--Aches...
Terraplane used to be called the Terriblepain or the Tearapieces...
Actually pretty good cars; had a 36 Hudson and a 34 Terraplane. My brother, before he passed to his reward ??, regularly smashed up Hornets.
Good luck with your project.

Hi, I'am kinda into old cars, orphan cars especially. At this time I have 2 1929 Nash standards, Models 422 (Convert rumble seat coupe)
and a model 423 (2 door sedan), both are flathead sixes 184 c/i. 422 I finished up (close to anyhooo) restoration this year. Big Bucks Spent, LOL. 423 is a diamond in the rough, a works in progress. I did own a 1929 Essex super
six, man what a car, I still miss it after nearly fifty years. If your engine is like the 29, you cannot pull the pistons/rods out from the top rod bearing is larger than the bore. Also, mine had removable counter weights on the
crankshaft, that may have to be removed in order todo piston/ring/pin work. No ring compressor needed for piston/ring work, lower edge of cylinders have a champher. Also 29 had a roller tappet cam, and timing chain was adjustable from outside of engine. And if ya have to remove crank counter weights mark carefully, to get them reinstalled same as when
removed. 29 also had a wet clutch, cork disc plate, was smooth. Same clutch as most early Hudsons Had. Some junk I remembered from my car.
Sorry to ramble on so, John K, In Wis

Only clutch catalog I have that covers those years shows all Essex with the Hudson wet clutch, which works nicely, as long as the throwout bearing doesn"t leak oil and you remember to check it every so often...
Our 36 was converted to dry clutch by local mech, but don"t recall what he used (and didn"t care at the time). Don"t know if the Hudson purists have any conversions or not.

I grew up with a 29 essex couupe. sold it to junk man for 20 bucks. If you need answers about vacume tank or carbureter, just ask.

Our neighbor had one of those 1929 Nash's. It was a very dependable car. He put tires chains on it when we had snow and it was like a tank. I bet it weighed 3 tons. Hal

Reminds me of me and buddy's 27 Dodge Brothers car. Bought for 40 bucks. Thousand dollars later still not finished. Wish I had it now.
