Canada/Pacific Christmas train last night

Canadian-Pacific Chistmas train comes through this farming area of New York ever year. Last two years we tried to see it, but missed it each time. We live on top of a mountain and can see it a few miles away - but it's hard to figure when it's going to come buy. It comes from Canada, and stops at various cities along the way - does not stop at rural areas inbetween.

Last night, after we promised out little kid we'd see it this time - we missed it again. But, hopped in our truck and overtook it where it had pulled over for a break on a railroad siding. So, we got ahead of it, parked by the tracks, and got to see it close up. It's a pretty neat thing to see out in the middle of nowhwere on a dark night.

Shared those with the whole family. You're lucky to have something like that coming thru your area. Thanks for sharing it!

It will come through No. Dakota the middle of December. It does this every year. Very nice to see and while it is in towns they take up collections for different needy groups.

Those pictures are pretty neat. Often wondered what a train pulling out of NYC and Joisey which pass the plant about 5 hours later, would look like with a black light along the tracks. Some of those cars are quite the mural for railyard artists.

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train travels through the Midwest, bringing festive Christmas entertainment to Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and into Saskatchewan. The decorated train stops along the way, the railcar opens and entertainers put on a show. For food donations for pantries and the like. Saw it in Portage, Wi and it was surreal. Don't miss it.

I had no idea that the Canadian Pacific RR ran in the States. I guess I thought it only ran in well...Canada. Do US trains like UP run in Canada?
I had no idea they fixed up a train like that. You'd think that the papers would say something about it.
Does it run the rail lines through Syracuse/Rochester or the southern route through Binghamton.

I have seen the train in La Crosse, WI several times. Yesterday's Tribune has a picture of it and it will be coming through on December 11. It is free but they would like food donations for the WAFER food pantry.

jdemaris: What the heck have you Americans got going for you. I've never seen this train, and the CP rail line to the US at Sarnia crosses the back of this farm.

Being 25 miles from the border and double tracked from just east of me to the border, to allow trains to meet. I can stand in our back bedroom window and see the CP trains go by. Lord knows there is enough of them, blowing their damn whistles from midnight until day break.

There are actually 2 of the trains. One should be here tomorrow night, with Johnny Reid on board. Played football with him in university, wish I didn't have to milk or I'd go heckle him.

We went last year too, always a big stop here since it's one of the main CP repair yards (actually every year the two trains usually spend some time in the yard here together)

Melanie Doane and Wide Mouth Mason were here last year, lots of fun and the kids all got train whistles which my wife had to "lose".

Canadian Pacific bought out the old USA D & H Railroad we had here. Trains used to derail here once or twice a year until CP took over.

JD, it made a stop in Saratoga, was on the news, apparently it has raised $3 million since it's inception, I'll bet the young one enjoyed seeing it, looks great at night with all the decorations on it.

I live by the CN tracks up here and have seen all kinds of railcars from US trains, Union Pacific, Burlington Northern, even Sante Fe. I think railroads switch cars back and forth all the time. I'm curious how they keep track of all of them though. Dave
