Does anyone on here have any experience with one of these? I am looking at this model and the HT101. I need one to trim back all the trees along the fields and I don't like the idea of riding in the loader bucket with a chainsaw. Thanks for your help, Chris
Take a look

Much safer than riding in a bucket !!!! I see the electric companys use them and I havent heard of any accidents useing one . So they must be OK..

I bought a stihl pole saw a couple of years ago, looks like the same model, could be wrong. Anyway, it works great for trimming field edges and I'm glad I bought it. Just keep the chain sharp and let the saw do the work, don't apply any down pressure. Easily cuts branches up to 6-7 inches. If you fall out of the bucket, a trip to the ER will cost you more than the saw!

Depends on your shoulders condition. These are heavy when extended & not real easy to handle when not extended. Nothing works like one but 15 minutes & I'm done.

I have one for exactly the same use. Does a real nice job and yes they are awkward when extended. I find when I extend it all the way it is easier to carry vertical resting on my hip.
Couple of suggestions:
1. When you cut a larger limb slice the bottom first then cut from the top--be careful you really don"t want to pinch the blade.
2. When you finish the cut don"t let the saw drop below the limb cause the limb will slide right down the pole into your face--ask me how I know--this can result in a bent pole.
3. You can cut horzontal but I can"t hold up the fully extended saw in that position. My field edge gets pretty steep in places.

Our local dealer has a demo unit thagt I have used. Would like to have one myself, but $650 is kinda steep. TSC has a Poulan for less than $200 but it ooks like it does not extend. I considered one of those myself.

I bought an ECHO a couple of years ago. It was kind of pricey but seemed to be a better deal than the Stihl. I am sure the Stihl was okay but the ECHO has done a good job and has been reliable. But one has to be careful with these "chainsaws on a stick". It cost $499.99 and that was in 2007.

My brother has one and I have used it. It cuts quite well. They get heavy after awhile and the sawdust falling down will aggravate you if it is hot. The main thing though is to be able to get out of the way of any larger limbs that you cut down.

have a Husky, comes apart into 2 pieces, bit more rigid than the Stihl that telescopes inside bottom section

these work great, for nice trim work, cut bottom about 6 inches away from final cut then cut down from top at same spot to remove branch, then with weight off you can do lot better job removing the stub

BUT:

my brother used it on the roof to cut branches overhanging his roof, he almost took 2 story tumble onto the driveway when branch suddenly let loose, branch took out dish TV antenna on the way down

that long pole has plenty of leverage, I pulled something loose in my upper arms that Dr. says is rotator cuff injury
