corn stalk chopper with windrower

I am looking for one, 5600 Hiniker is the main one I find, what other ones is there, how is it to round bale behind? Dale Thanks

Got an old Schultz 4 row chopper and it can windrow corn stalks. It has two deflecting sheets of metal that bolt in on each side at the rear. It is old but works great. You only bale 4 rows, some guys think this is to slow and want more rows raked together, but it sure saves time and wear and tear on a rake. My old NH 855 chain baler picks up the stalks just fine, I guess some balers don't like to pick up stalks that are chopped to fine.

MC Rotary Scythe or a New Idea Cut/Ditioner work good. I use a Cut/Ditioner. Works good for baling. I rake it 2 into 1 with a Kuhn Rotary rake.

My Brother has a cut-ditioner he has never used. I thought about borrowing it to try on sudan grass to speed up drying time but I did not know if it would shred it like a bushhog or not. If it worked on grass I would buy one myself or any make of cup knife style cutter would do I guess. Have you ever cut grass hay to bale?

Thanks

Yes,that was all that I used for a haybine for 13 years. They work better in alfalfa or clover than they do in grass hay. Just depends on how sharp they are. They tend to slide over grass hay and leave some long stubble if they get beat up or dull. It doesn't grind it up like a brush hog does. Just kinks the stem so it will dry faster. There's nothing better in down alfalfa though. Tends to suck it right up off the ground. If you cut cornstalks with one, going in the opposite direction from which it was picked,it cuts the stalks to pieces as they feed in since the other end is still anchored to the ground.

Our area is blessed with an field obstacles called .... rocks. We have found n our custom baling business that a 15' rotary cutter ad v-rake hooked in tandem works the best. It leaves enough longer material to bale easily ands is very low on maintenance. We only sharpen the knives about twice a year and still using original knives for the past 7 years. We average 50 bales an hour with this set-up using our Vermeer 605M baler
