Ford 5.4 update

a few weeks ago I asked if there was a common issue with the 5.4 knocking and got many suggestions. I finally got it apart and the #4 cylinder has spun and spit out a rod bearing. That being said can the #4 piston be pulled out the bottom and reinstalled?
this is the back one on the passenger side I have tried to find this elsewhere but no good info hope you guys can help

NO . I doubt it , even if you do manage to get it out , how will you compress the rings to get it back it the cylinder ? Pull the motor , do it right . I doubt you have enough room to get it back in just pulling the head off . Although,,alot of in frame repairs on fords are done now by removing the cab .

you can't pull a piston from the bottom..5.4 is tough as nails...had a 01 E-250 with 246,000mi. on it & now have a 06 E-250 with 146,000mi....no problems

I looked up there and the bottom of the wall is cast round but I couldn't see all of it or if the rest of the block would be out of the way.I could pull just the one head but not sure I want to do that as I think if you break one down it is best to do both

You won't need to pull the piston out to change the rod bearings, but if it spun one, it probably messed up the crank journal, so you should probably pull the engine and pull the crank out. I have polished a rod journal with emery cloth and put new inserts in, but I wouldn't recommend it.

yea I used to hang around a automotive machine shop and learned some valuable info when a rod has hammered on a crank it makes it out of round and in a sense egg shaped so it is likely to let go earlier and what ever made this thing let go so early 116,000 miles could be a defect in the rod. I prefer to change the rod and crank
