John Deere 520LP PTO

I have a john deere 520lp and I can't get the PTO to work. Which lever or levers control the PTO? There is one foot pedal lever and a small handle lever but neither one is engaging the PTO. When the foot pedal lever is pushed up I can turn the PTO shaft by hand but that is it and when the foot pedal lever is not engaged then the PTO shaft will not turn by hand. Help please. Thanks.

Are you turning the lever (at the right corner of the shifter box) to your left? This turns on the PTO. After the PTO is on, you operate it with the foot lever

It's all explained in your operator's manual.1-800-522-7448.
If somebody didn't read the operator's manual and jammed the either the hydraulic pump or the pto isolation lever into gear. With the engine running. You maybe pulling the tractor apart to replace the broken pieces.

Ya know, I keep forgettin that some on here are not real familiar with tractors! You have to switch the PTO lever on BEFORE you start the tractor

Sorry, my bad

MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS OFF TO MOVE THAT LITTLE SHIFTER ! or else major damage will happen. If it doesn't want to engage like the gears aren't meshed just bump the starter with the ign. off and it should mesh right in. I think on that model it rotates to the left to engage. Then you use the foot pedal with the engine running to turn the pto shaft off and on. forward is on and back is off.
