My wife took this picture from the kitchen window this morning of this big hawk. All the birds were hidden while he was there. Hal

I guess he didn't want any part of that big iron rooster to his right.

Like the old Warner Brothers cartoon...

"I'm a chicken hawk, and you're a chicken."

"Boy, I say, I ain't no chicken. Besides, I'm all bony and scrawny. Now there (pointing to the dog) is a chicken!"

He's got to watch out for stuff like that hawk from every direction. ...then there's the story about the Super-Rooster. It's NSFW.

Saw, and heard, some hawks while deer hunting the past couple of weekends. When the hawks appeared, the barking and scampering of the squirrels went silent. Huing buddy says he's seen a hawk swoop in and grab a squirrel right off the side of a tree, and fly away with the squirrel still screaming. While I've never seen that, from the reaction of the squirrels I'm sure it's probably happened when I've not been around.

We have several different species here and none of them are very scared. Saw one last week swoop down on a hedge hog. Pretty entertaining. Brought the term "monkey F ing a football" to mind. It finally managed to get it to the woodling.

Nice photo of the hawk and the iron rooster.

You know that this wisecrack is coming - he must be a chicken hawk!

We have several hawks on our farm.

There is one that usually comes out and watches me mow the bottom.

Here is a photo Nancy took from our den.

I've watched hawks catch doves & mice but had one near home here that loved snakes, must have caught a dozen this summer.

He looks at home sitting on that post. Hal
PS: My wife went to the sliding door to get a better pic and he flew away. They have terrific eye sight. That looks like a Chevy pickup too.

That bird is not hunting he has his feathers all puffed out and is hiding in the tree. I would say he was cold and looking for a warm place to hide out.

When I go to town there are more hawks than telephone poles around here.

That is my dad's 65 Chevy step-side.

He bought it new for $1,700.00.

Gave it to me in 1980 just to get it away from the house.

It is back home again.

Probably taking a rest, there are several species around here, besides the red tail, the smaller ones are aggressive, I had one inside a thick shrub tree once. Something going on in there, as I am watching the tree move a little, never thought there would be a hawk inside it. Poked his head out and flew right at me, under the soffit of the porch, then a hard right and out. This species I see more and more of, real aggressive, seen a few missed attempts at the bird feeder, which always means one of em will fly into the bow window, dove did that once, and still made a get away.

In front of my deer stand, every morning, one odf these patrols the stand of oats, a 2nd crop came up after the early august harvest, probably all kinds of mice in there, he skims along the top and just hovers sometimes, lands and keeps going til he gets one, and I've not seen him come up with one yet, those oats sure are a crowd pleaser, the deer are in there every night, and the hawks keep a close watch from nearby high voltage line towers

I remember that cartoon; the best part of it is when the chicken points to the word dog on the doghouse and says D-O-G: Chicken and all H*** beaks loose.

Oh...when I clicked on this thread, I thought you had some pictures or buzzards circling above some of the auto plants here in Detroit. Or possibly our economy....that dead isnt it?

I thought it was a 1966. The government had a lot of the 1966 Chevys. They were all stick shift and were pretty good on gas. In 1974 when the oil embargo was still on they bought new 1/2 ton trucks with that 350cid engine with the AT. The truck should've had dual saddle tanks. Only could get 8 or 10 miles to a gallon. I think they may still have some. At one time they bought new trucks every 5 years and sold the old ones at auction. We couldn't bid on them, but that changed later. Hal
