Harvest is completely stopped with 3 inches of new snow. Tillage also stopped, as Friday AM it was 7 degrees and the ground is too frozen to work. Now this snow is insulating/keeping the ground frozen. I'm sure we will get back in to pick, but I think there is a pretty good chance that fall tillage and fert app is done--but who knows?

WE didn't need this

Here in central IL the corn harvest is winding down but not over. It is hard to look and not see a field standing but they are quickly disappearing now. I've been putting on NH3 the last few days and it is getting cold enough at night to be a problem. I couldnt get started till almost noon yesterday waiting for it to thaw out and then just before midnight it was again froze and I had to stop. Its been in the high teens at night and around 32 during the day. Todays forecast is for a high around 50 and then rain tonight. If it rains very much it could end the tillage for the year.

here in south western Ontario we had 2-3 feet of snow dumped on top of really wet fields. Lots of corn to be done yet even the odd bean field to get finished. Will need a good thaw to settle the snow then freeze the ground enough to run on. Lots of people here have no tilled for 20+ yrs fall ruts and no till doesnt work. Hope you get a good turn of weather to complete your harvest, Bob

We would have been almost done by now but a lot of the corn went down, so our harvest speed is about cut in half. The snow on the down corn Isn't helping one bit and we are picking up rocks with the corn heads and taking out gear boxes because of it. If the snow goes away we will probably be going at it for another ten days or so. NW Iowa. Jim

Hey boys what is wrong with you. Back in the 40's I graduated from high school and Dad went and bought a New Oliver 60 and a single row corn picker and said "You are going to pay for it". We lived in NC Iowa. We finished up about the first of Dec and had put the picker in the shed. Here came a neigbor who had corn to pick. His brother was suppose to pick it but he enjoyed Anti-freeze and neglected doing it. He offered Dad quite a bonus to come and pick. So out came the picker. I told Dad if I was going to be the operator he was going to get a Canvas Hear Houser for the tractor. Talk about mud and frozen ground I had it. It would thaw and the turning ends developed ruts and then froze. I ended up picking on the day before Christmas in a blizzard. I had to keep raising the snouts up out of the snow, and was missing ears. The owner said "Keep going". I had to turn on the lights. I did not dare to shut down the picker as the drag chains would freeze. Ended up picking after dark and pulled in the yard and did not get the picker home for three weeks. I lived. gitrib
