Dark Horse Equipment

I noticed that a TSC store this passed week that they had a piece if Dark Horse equipment. It was a 5'tiller marked at 800 dollars comparded to the King Kutter marked $1499. I know that the Dark Horse is made in China and the KK is made (or assembled) in Alabama.(don't know where the parts are made.) I have been told the Dark Horse is Junk but have also been told that the parts of the DH and KK tillers were interchangable. Does anyone out there know anything about this and if so let me know.

I purchased a King Kutter 5' bush hog a year ago last summer. The gear box was so noisy you could hear it for at least a 1/4 of a mile. The dealer exchanged it for another. It also was noisy, so the dealer again exchanged it for a third one. Same amount of noise. I called King Kutter's office and was told their gear boxes are made in China. He also indicated they would continue buying gear boxes from China, even though they had been made aware of the noise. Finally gave up and just let this one howl.

FYI, I work at TSC and we did sell some of the Dark Horse equipment. It was sent to us as a test market. Needless to say the test failed which is why you are seeing that tiller selling for 800 bucks. We did not receive a tiller at our store, but we did receive some blades, rakes and shredders. Only one shredder stayed with the owner, the rest were returned within a few weeks of purchase. Last week we got one of the rakes back, it was falling completely apart and didn't appear to have much use. My advice, stay far far away from anything marked Dark Horse.
With the exception of the shredders, we have had great luck with the King Kutter line.

I have an old Sun-Master tow behind that I keep fixing up I wouldn't trade for a dozen of those new ones. Th gear box is built like a tank and the frame work will stand up to anything you can put it up against. I have used it to clear fields of 2 to 3 in saplings with no trouble.

I guess you don't realize that almost none of the gearboxes on that class of implement from any manufacturer is made in China. The consumer grade Eurocardan and Comer gearboxes included are made in China. Lienbach, Worksaver, Bush Hog, Befco, TSC, King Kutter...Post hole diggers, bush hogs, tillers... Danuser is the only maker I'm aware of that still uses a US made gearbox.
