Massey 1100

I am looking at a Massey 1100. The guy that has it now says everything was running fine and then all of a sudden he lost all hydraulics, power steering, and brakes. Anybody got any idea what may have happened? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It has been 20 years ago but I remeber a dump valve on the floor, for ease the starting I think it looked like a pin with a keyring on it up dumped hyd' pressure and down for run.

Probably has a pto shaft on the back of the engine that goes into a pto hub. Sometimes they strip the splines off and no more hyraulics. It just looks like an axle shaft out of a car. I just changed one on a White about a month ago.

It looks like a key ring and is located strait down as you are looking between your legs while sitting on the seat. If the floor get's real muddy it will pop up when you step on the ring. Hope it's only that otherwise $$$.

Good Luck

One of four things:

Either the 5 micron filter behind the grill is plugged. OR

The metal filter screen in the bottom of the transmission housong is plugged. OR

Most likely, the charge pump under the platform failed. Either the key broke, shaft failed or other internal failure.

Radial pump failure. Though not common, still possible.

I would bet that the problem is the coupler on the pto shaft between the transmission & rear end. When it goes bad you loose all hydralics instantly. It could also be the coupler in the flywheel.

Yes, on a Massey, if you lose hydraulics, you lose everything (steering, brakes, etc.)
My 1130 did the same thing this summer. It was the coupler under the platform... For a $25 dollar part, labor was around $600 for the install (you have to take the top of the platform off, etc.)
