After juggling tire sizes for many years, I have decided that mounting wider tires on wheels intended for more narrow tires is a big mistake. The wide tires bulge out in the tread center.

Go to tire rack.com, they should list the rolling diameters of tires on various rim sizes, I doubt you will run into any problems just jumping up 2 sizes on your rims, just look at the front sidewall clearances against fenders and tie rods, etc, if you have an inch to spare with your existing tires, you'll probably clear.

See the tire I want to mount after conversion is only 1.1 inches wider that the 235 75. Want to know the with of my rim so that I can be sure that I am not going to cause a safety concern. As for the tire I am sure it will clear.

1st tire change on my 1 ton 93 dually jumped 2 sizes and went 10 ply been running that size ever since no problems

Measure the width of the tire on the rim by laying a ruler across the tread and sighting down each side of the tire. Then put the ruler against the rim where the tire seats (not the outside edge) and sight down the side of the tire to see the distance from the bead to the outside of the tire. Double this measurement and subtract it from the tire width.

Been running 265X75X 15"S on Chevy 8-inch ralley wheels on a 1994 GMC for years.Only seen change,is a slight diffrence in speedometer reading.
It looks to be about 10% low

Joe,
Examine your rims carefully. The size is stamped into them somewhere, may have to hunt to find it. Will be something like 15x8JJ or some such.
15 is of course the diameter
8 is the width.

Go to a tire shop and ask them to measure it with the rim caliper for their balancing machine. Balancers require you to input wheel width, and shops have a large plastic caliper that will measure rim width with the tire installed.

PS should be a 7" wheel.
