OT winterizing a pressure washer

I have used my future father in laws pressure washer more this year than he has, but I want to know how or what can I do to winterize it for him. It is left in an unheated shed all winter long in north Wisconsin (really cold) Should I run some RV antifreeze thru it or just blow the lines and pump out with air. I don't want to wreck any seals so all thoughts are welcomed.

Hi Brad
Can only say what I do with mine . I get a
gallon of -20 windshield washer fluid and
start it up and run the whole gallon thru, stopping just before it runs out. Been doing this for 7-8 years. no problems yet. I figure the washer fluid was made for pumps and seals
etc. Just my fix, nothing the makers said.

I drain the hose and leave it in my unheated garage. The pressure washer gets dragged down my cellar stairs for the winter.I do drain the gas out of it.Thanks for reminding me.Mine is still out in the garage and it'll be cold soon here in upstate New York.

What I do is get a piece of hose hooked up to the pump inlet and then use a funnel filled with anti-freeze. Then pull the motor starter handle a few times until the green liquid comes out the pump outlet.

HD or Lowe's, even Sears Roebuck, sell a product to take care of it, and it's effective and cheaper than running a gallon of stuff through it.

It's basically an antifreeze that wont' harm your seals, and comes in an aerosol can with a hose going to a fitting to thread onto the water inlet to the pump. Real easy to use. Pull a couple of times on the starter rope to purge as much water as possible from the pump. Hook up the aerosol and give enough of a squirt to see some running out the other end. Better yet is to keep squirting while you turn the pump with the starter rope. Two or three pulls like that and you're set.

It's served me well for a lot of years.

I do the same as Bob I run windshield washer fluid into mine. The salesmen did this with there demo units in the winter.

I have a Hotsy Hot Water Pressure washer. I have a 5 gallon pail mixed with regular vehicle anti freeze (mixed to proper temp) that I run through everything. Hotsy says to use regular anti-freeze "not RV anti-freeze". In the spring I run it back into the pail until it runs clear. That's what I've been doing without a problem.

I use the RV antifreeze also. I run the washer till it is out of water. I made a pipe with a hose adapter on it and an elbow with a enlarged couple on top to act as a funnel. I fill it up with the RV antifreeze and turn it over till the pink liquid comes out the spray port. Works good and don't have to mess trying to hold the hose while pouring.

I used to hook up a 2 gallon sprayer tank full of anti freeze in the winter but once you do that, you won"t want to use your pressure washer again for the season. So, I found a great solution.

I have some air compressor fittings that adapt to a water hose. I quickly connect the air compressor to the pressure washer and blow out the water in a minute or two. Quick, easy, and cheap. And if I want to use the washer again, its not a big deal to blow it out once more.
