Cleaning carbs.

Just tried some WORKS toilet bowl cleaner and it really works good on the rusty cast iron carbs.

If you do any alum. ones it will likey eat them up. Maybe a quick dip and rinse ?

Well I also soaked the brass parts and they seemed fine. I just keep an eye on it checking it often. The castings which still had the brass jets in place were in about 1/2 hour ? and the brass about 15 min. ?
The little bit of paint it had and some of the gunk were still there, but this stuff is the ticket for the rust !

I use the Works calcium, lime, & rust remover for water/limestone stains. $1 a bottle at Dollar General instead of the few bucks at wally world for CLR which is same stuff. Bottle says oxalic acid and glycolic acid.

Don't have the toilet bowl stuff.

Also have the Works tub & shower cleaner for a buck a bottle. It has oxalic acid and sulfuric acid.

I buy most of those household type cleaners at DG. Cheaper but may or may not be a weaker solution.

Probably all a weak acid mix. A gallon of muratic acid from Ace hardware for about $8 will get the rust too and probably much stronger. Don't over do it.

I believe the active ingredient is phosphoric acid. It shouldn't hurt aluminum or brass, as long as it's used in moderation. However, it's probably not going to dissolve the varnish deposits that are the main thing you're trying to remove.

Take a 2 Liter soda bottle. take aluminum foil, and make about 15 little balls out of the foil so they will fit down the neck of the soda bottle. Dump in some "The works" toilet boil cleaner, quickly put on the lid, stand way back and watch the explosion.

I would definately NOT use it in conjuction with anything aluminum.

Phosphoric acid is the best thing for getting rust out of gas tanks. Then spray the tank with wd40 to neutralize it and stop new rust from forming.

Maybe we've found a cheap source for it instead of in the paint dept at home cheapo.

Where do they sell the works drain cleaner? Stopped at dollar general today and they didn't have it.
