2000 Chevy 1500

Wife got home today and said her heater wont work. Said it was heating yesterday, but would not heat today. The fan blows, but only cold air...This is on a 2000 Chevy 1500 PU. I havent looked at it yet, just thought maybe I would save some time before i looked at it....Any ideas???

Once in a while my '99 Silverado heater control "locks up" from the start. The lights indicating "AC", "Circulate" and "Outside air" all light up at the same time and the output is cold no matter what the heat is set at. Turning the ignition completely off for a few seconds will reset this condition.

Your problem could be an actuator that controls the heat level too - just a thought.

I'd take back the manual heater controls from my '72 Chevy any day!

Good luck,
Bill

Has enough coolant, I ran the truck enough to get warm, 210 degrees...heater blew cold. shut truck off, restarted, heater blew warm, not really hot. Drove home, it was blowing cool, shut off, restart, blew warm...Any ideas???????

I had an S-10 one time ( only once). Heater wouldn't work. I drove it 85 miles with my insulated coveralls on to keep from freezing. Finally figured out it was low on coolant, after tearing the heater apart. I never thought about it not heating because the water was low. Was loosing water because of a broken head bolt. It was almost new still under waranty. The next thing that happened it blew the top off of a piston. That happened under warranty to. I didn't wait for anything else to happen. It had bucket seats in it, carry 2 people with groceries in the back if it was't raining. About like a motorcycle with a side car.

Sounds like a bad heater control valve. It's not letting the coolant to the heater core. Sometimes you can get to it under the hood, follow the coolant hose from the firewall to find it. If you can't find it, it may be under the dash.

Being a Chevy tech, I can say I have put quite a few temp door actuators on those body style trucks. I'd make sure the heater core is not plugged, thermostat is keeping the engine warm, coolant full, proper freeze protection. Did you by chance put a new battery in and now it's doing this? Pull the HVAC fuse from the underhood fuse block let it sit for 10 mins then put it back. Sometimes this is all that's needed to re set the HVAC controller.
