Got the calves weaned

Some how I managed to get the babies seperated from the mama's. my biggest calf was stuck in the feed pen all night so I figured it was time to wean them and take the gates down. Now it's snowing. I sure hope the mama's get over it soon. Calves have all the hay, feed and water they want. Now to decide to sell them or keep them. Less work in the winter is better.

I don't miss those days of bawling cows and calves. It sure is funny how soon you learn the belloring of each cow or it's calf. We only buy feeder calves now and I don't touch newly weaned calves anymore. Those 30+ days weaned are sure a lot less trouble. At the local sale barn last Saturday there were still a lot of just weaned calves that brought fair money but were purchased by new fn the business. The more experienced buyers justy back off of them. Good luck on what ever way you go. Somebody needs to feed them or we'll soon be importing food the way we do oil and then watch the consumers scream.

Hope you've got a loud fan or something to run in the bedroom so you can sleep. Plan on using something for white noise for about 4 nights.

Notice the dog scraps, per kilogram. at the Supermarket are twice + the cost of what you are getting for your animal at the saleyard.
