1999 f-250 v8 knocks I seem to remember there was timing tensioner issues. It is loud at times and low power then other times it barely makes a noise unless revved up does this sound like tensioner issues or are there other things that could be similar that they are known to have issues with.I don't want to break it down just yet so looking for things to look at that maybe I can't think of.

also possibly rubber falling out of the damper pulley.

What weight oil you running? sometimes cold starts with thick oil causes valvetrain noise. Just a really random guess here. How many miles on it?

thanks for the replys guys this thing is a friend of mine's and he just lost his job as well as I did and asked me to help. I plan on going by there to look at it tomorrow he said it made a knocking sound and lost power then died. He has started it but says it sometimes wont I am leaning towards the tensioner I think it is the 5.4 V8
