Covered Bridge

It was a sad day yesterday as someone or group set a covered bridge in my area on fire. (Geodgenville Bridge) There were only three bridges left in the county. I cannot understand any one doing something so stupid. The bridge was 140 years old. I doubt that it will be ever be rebuilt. This was in Erie County Penna. I have lots of memories from the past of this area. I hope they catch the guilty party or parties and prosacute them to the limit.

Six or seven years ago, we had a 100+ year old bridge go up in flames. Turned out it was a couple of kids doing a prank. One of them was a nearby town's mayor's son. Basically got of scott free....

if you push it might get rebuilt we had one washed away in a flood a while back only 2 houses on that road township didnt want to bother but everybody complained it was part of our heritage so they applied and got grants to rebuild it took em 2 years to get it done but looks like the original so time well spent

Was it insured Like all other county building? If it was they have no excuse for not rebuilding it.

Yup, same thing happened down here in Lancaster County a few years ago...the sad thing is even if they got caught they are probably under 18 and would just spend a couple months in jouv hall...

It happened to the Bridgeton Bribge in Parke County IN a few years ago. it was rebuilt with volunteer help and donations and cost the county very little to do it, but it was rebuilt as a pedestrian bridge although it would carry traffic with no problems. The old bridge had been closed for years and the county had put a concrete bridge in next to it. I went to help work on it for part of a week. Best time I had in years even if it was hard work. By the way, the bozo who burned it had just gotten out of jail and the mental hatch for burning his apartment down. He burned one other bridge that night(jeffries ford) and a sherrif caught him at the 3rd one in Mansfield with cans of gas. I hope he rots in his cell.

I am from Edinboro and know that bridge well. Very sad to hear of its loss. I hope they catch the culprits and make them pay!!!

This site already shows pictures after the fire, been on a few of them in N.H. I don't think theres any left here in MA I was suppressed to see the pictures of all the spray painting inside the bridge.

There is still a nice covered bridge in Colrain, MA. Barely in MA as the Vermont line is about 10 minutes from where it is. Real nice little sleepy area of town with some nice dairy and orchards near-by.

Lets stop and regroup here. I live 1 mile from the Bridge featured in the Bridges of Madison County and it was not burned. We did have another 1 burned.
