OT Ford/Navistar diesel

Since I have no way to check out a running problem with a 6.0 liter diesel , we sent it to the local Ford dealer to be checked out..After 10 hours diagnostic time , they can't figure it out either..They were in contact with Tech Services throughout the whole ordeal..Tech Services says to change the injectors...Ford wants $5,200 to change injectors in this engine..With 53,000 miles on the truck...I can't believe it costs this much to replace some injectors.. Truck starts cold with light missfire. Runs "doggie" for about the first mile then straightens out..Hot starts poorly , have to hang onto the key till it finally lights...If Dodge made a heavier model truck , I think I'd go for the Cummins next time...We currently run F-550's....Bookends...Consecutive serial numbers...When 1 gets sick the other comes down with the exact same symtoms within weeks of the other...Water pump pulleys exploding, turbochargers "coking" , serpentine belts and idler pulleys, frame mounted fuel filters drain plug frozen into casting, front timing covers leaking oil, air filter indicators breaking off..Other than that , They're not so bad.....

Ford was being sued by Navistar for renegging on a deal to have them build some new, small diesels in the USA. Navistar claims they starting building a new plant just for the new engine when Ford backed out. Who knows?

Dodge did the same with Cummins for two new small diesels - I kind of wonder where that has gone?

GM was working on a new diesel that runs on gasoline haven't heard much lately on that one, either.

Unplug the air temp sensor on the air cleaner
assy and see if that changes the symptom.
It will log a code but default to a set value.

What happens is the computer will sense it is unplugged and use a pre-determined 70 Degree value for the Sensor.

I am curious if they checked your Fuel Cetane level?? You may want to try a cetane additive to see if you have a fuel quality issue.

I question the injector theory unless they have been contaminated by water or gas and have been scored enough to cause problems. Injectors are very expensive for those engines.

What year is it, it has 5 year or 100,000 mile warrenty. 6.0 have a lot of problems, don't ask how I know. Don c

Truck is early 2003 with 50,000 miles...Well under mileage....just over time..Why did the factory trained techs find no problem with it??Fuel isn't an issue..We use only premium diesel..I took a sample the other day..Crystal clear...I have used NAPA fuel conditioner with no improvement....
