ford 800 oil pump

I purchased a 1957 model 800, 172 ci, I noticed that the oil pressure was high, i dropped the pan and discovered that a 100 psi oil pump had been installed, should i change this back to a gear type or is this pump ok?, It has above 80psi at cold start-up and 60 to 70 after warm up. no oil blow-by or smoke. it still has bolt-on type oil filter.

I'd slave in a known good gauge before I'd change the pump. The mech. gauges do go bad.Does the needle return to 0 with the engine off?

the gauge seems to be about 3 to 4 years old, it returns to zero after shutoff, I was talking to a new holland mechanic and he said that he thinks that this 100 psi g-rotor pump is for the industrial engine and that I have a AG engine and are probably the one in the same, he said to run 5w30 and it should be ok, after some further checking I believe this is the replacment pump for a 801, 172ci, I plan to keep this old guy for a long time and wanted to be sure it did not cause future problems. thanks for the help.
