Since I had good luck the last time I got really stuck on some problems on here, I'll reach out again.

1) Simplify (no negative exponents)
(2a^2,y^-3)^3(5a^-1,y^2)^-2

Caret ^ stands for exponent. I added commas to help seperate.

2)Graph h(x)=4 over x

3)850 people attended a concert. Adult tickets cost $14 and childrens tickets cost $9. Total sales reciepts were $10,400. How many children's tickets and how many adult tickets were sold?

This one I am having troubles getting set up to solve.

Thank you so much for your time in advance.

X + Y= 850 and 14X + 9Y=10400

X= 850-y

14 times X (850-Y)+9Y= 10400

14 times 850= 11,900 -14Y+9Y=10400
Transform -5Y =-1500
Y=300 x=550

300 x $9.00= 2700 + 550 x $14.00=7700 totals $10,400

There is a very good website called Purplemath.com that will explain almoat any topic in math.

Good luck

Maybe this will help with your problem?
An expression with exponents that is multiplied or divided by another expression - use simple addition of the exponents.
Example: a^3 * a^4 = a^7
or: a^3 / a^4 = a^-1
An expression with exponents that is in turn raised to a power - use multiplication.
Example: (a^3)^3 = a^9
If I understand correctly the way your expression was written then it shoud be simplfied to:
8a^8 / 25y^13

I need a handle,
That's pretty bad, going onto a tractor forum for help with your homework. :lol:

What could possibly be bad about it? It works! There are folks from all walks of life who like antique tractors. I know there are all kinds of teachers who frequent these boards, even math professors. There isn't much that the ytmag community can't answer! I am very thankful for such a resource.

Yes, thank you, and I understand how you came to that answer. In order to turn those negative exponents into positive ones, you have to do your multiplication and then turn it into division and put the negatives down below. Thanks again!

beats the p!ss outa me why one would fart with algebra. I never understood the stuff.It's hard enough to figure things out with ordinairy math.B'sides I never found a need for it yet

And, that stuff explains just why i took a business course in high school! I couldn't figger out all that gobbeldy gook! Still can't!

No doubt about it, it takes time and patience to learn it. You wouldn't believe the time I spend on it each week. This is only Intermediate Algebra! Wait until next semester when I take College Algebra.

Alot of the word problems help link algebra to real world problems. Number 3 is such a problem. In that one, you know how much each kind of ticket cost, you know the total amount, but you don't know how many of each ticket was sold. With algebra you can find out how many of each were sold. Pretty neat.
