Wisconsin engine won't wisconsin

My wisconsin engine isn't running right,it has been setting up for awhile and I put it on a haybaler and it doesn't have an power and won't excellerate very good. It is a VH4D.Checked the valves and they are working right, pull both spark plug wires off on one side and it doesn't change the running, pull one off on the other side and it starts missing and the exhaust is hotter on one side,it acts like one side is not working, checked valves, timing, spark, compression, and took the manifold off to make sure that it wasn't stopped up on that side, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your problem lies in the cylinders that didn't change when you unplugged the spark. Magneto ignition correct? I'd suspect the mag. First things first, though, put 4 new spark plugs in it.

Then a compression check, It could be that the two are now joined by a blown gasket.
The wires could also be in the wrong holes in the mag, or on the wrong cylinders at the plugs. JimN

It is a distributor ignition, and I put new champion plugs in it and they are orange spark not blue. Thanks

If the exhaust is cold on one side, the plugs aren't firing on that side. Switch the plugs from one side to the other and see if the problem goes to the other side. If it does, you've got some bad plugs. Had the same thing happen to me on a Kohler 18 horse twin cylinder. rw

My Hesston SP moco 4H4D caught fire one year. Burned the wires, fuel pump, and distributor and most of the paint off over the dist. I replaced stuff and got it going again. The next year it ran ok but had no power. I replaced the dist bottom body and it was ok. I think what happened was the heat cooked off the oil on the parts inside that makes it advance so it rusted. Maybe that's what is sticking so it won't advance. Just a thought HTH.

A long time ago, I purchased a used Ottawa field sheller with a Wisconsin of that model. Turned out there were holes in both pistons on the cold side. It really did not sound too bad running on two cylinders.

Might try changing points and condenser if spark is orange and not blue. Be sure if mag to use wire core wires not carbon core auto wires. If still missing pull some of the shields off around cylinder jugs and see what it looks like when running. Could be a blown head gasket but I've seen some still running but missing with a cracked cylinder jug or cracked head and you will see that with shields off and running. Has water got in the engine recently? Oil not milky is it?

Look for stuck open exhaust valve(s).
You want a blue spark, not orange.
Be really sure of plug wiring, make sure of dist rotation and firing order.
Is ignition timing right on.
