Rusty Galahume metal roof question.

I have a machine shed that I built in 1986 about 36 X 60. The front is all sliding doors that stay open most of the year. The roof has started rusting just over the rafters. A strip of rust about 3-4 inches wide above each rafter. The rafters and lathes are pine with 15 lb felt under the metal . Why is the rust just over the rafter???? Thanks

My guess is moisture related being it is where the rafters are. You can paint it with Rusty Iron Primer that will stop the rust.

Had the same thing happen to me. Don't know why. But I replaced it with painted tin. I put bubble pack between the rafters and tin. No more rusting....yet.

I think galvalume is overrated and over priced.

The metal above the rafters stays cooler than the open areas with unimpeded air flow, encouraging condensation to collect (and dry off more slowly). This erodes the zinc coating on your galvalume roof more quickly.
