Grandma's Farm

My wife and I stopped in at my Grandparents home place just north of St. Joseph, Minnesota, and took some pictures of my moms home place. Grandma died in the 1960"s and my cousin just sold the land to some developers. I imagine they"ll burn the whole place down or just bury it. Nevertheless, you can view some history. The grainery was the original house, build of slab lumber, or logs. The house was built in 1886 with an addition built on to it in 1918. My mom was born in 1921. The machine shed used to house a Farmall F12, then a Farmall H. The foundation rotted, and can barely house that old wash machine sitting in front of it. My uncle Tony who farmed until the late 60"s never used the tractor, always horses. Drove his 38 Chevy to town, and he had the Sunday 1949 Chev sitting in the shed that he drove on Sunday to church.

Grandmas Farm I hate it when farmland is sold to developers. Once it's gone , it,s GONE. I see this happenening everywhere. A lot of the area around me used to be woods, but now are subdivisions. I'ts like Travis Tritt said: Country ain't Country no More.

Sure is neat to see some of them old farms still standing. You are probably right though, they will probably clear the land out and make room for the new. Its too bad. Good to hear them stories. Thankyou for sharing and posting!

You have some good pictures to remember the farm. You are probably right the developers will just burn the buildings down. When my Dad sold his place someone torched all the buildings one night. The person was never caught, but I suspect it was the developer.Stan

Fantastic pictures Bob, thanks for sharing them with us all. Taking the time to shoot those pictures prove that you really care about our history, hopefully you can share them with your younger family members in the future. Sadly your cousin has to part with the family history, hopefully it's not just for monetary gain but in the best interest of all.

Dave it is wonderful you took the pictures. Keep them and identify everything as you have. I have been working on my family ancetory and had a old large hump-back trunk full of momentos and pictures. Some of these went back before the Civil War.When I was a small boy a Great Aunt took time to go through and identify the ones she knew. Boy was this a gold mine. I know some people do not care but I am proud om my Ancestory. gitrib
