What tires would you pick?

I need to retread my 2 cyl John Deere 820 all around. I had firestone 23 degree traction field and road (bias tires) on it, and I didnt mind them. Now I have the option of buying used firestone 23 degree radials (but I find the lugs are almost spaced to close together for that style of tractor), or replace with what I had or I was looking at a BKT tire (tread pattern 135) its got more of a 45 degree tread like when the tractors were new, and then I would go with the old style fronts too with the notched outer rib. What do you think is best or does anyone know of a better looking or beter suited tire for it? I wont be working with it a whole lot, so I dont realy need radials or a high traction tire, I just want something that realy matches the tractor. thanks for any input

You have to ask yourself what are you going to do with this tractor? If it is just for show go with the period style tires, if it is for use the radial tread is probably the best.

If it was just for show or occassional light work I'd probably go with period type, cheaper bias tires.
If I was working it, radials all the way.
If you're in the mud or on the road a lot, Michelin Agribib's.
If you're doing some roading and mostly dry land type field work, the Firestone 23 degree radial is better for pulling. The Firestone 23 degree is an R1. The Michelin is an R1-W which is basically a 45 degree mud tire.
Either one, when bought as a set will more than double the value of most old tractors...

I wont be using the tractor for any job requiring alot of traction. But im havin a hard time finding a nice 45 deg tire. I find most are either european style or like an agribib radial. They just dont have the old look. Does anyone have a particular brand/style in mind that would look good?

Galaxy/Primex might still have a tire like you want, but I'm not certain. Might be worth a phone call...

For what you're doing, I definately wouldn't go with a radial- they'll only cost you more money than it's worth.

My brother put a set of Continental tires on his 550 Oliver and they look ot be about a 45 degree tire. They look pretty good. He went with a Firestone 4 rib 6.50x16 on the front.

For period correct, I'd think those look really good.
