unstyled a new piston rings-how to install??

i have new rings for the pistons, how do i line up the gaps on the rings? on the box it says groove 1 through 5 but is there a top and bottom of a ring? oil ring to?thank you..

Yes, yes, there is a top and a bottom to each ring. You have to read the directions CAREFULLY to figure out which of the rings are what, and which way the bevel on the rings go.

Oil ring goes on the bottom groove There should be an oil ring expander that you put in before the oil ring.

I don't remember what the unstyled A had for rings but you need a good ring expander tool to get these on correctly.

You stagger the grooves about one fifth of a turn with each consecutive ring.

Failure to adhere to basic piston ring mechanics will result in a loss of compression and blow-by.

You need to stagger the ring gaps. If the oil rings are 2 rails and an expander, the ends of the expander needs to be butted together and don't overlap. Then istall one rail above and one below the expander. Make sure the expander is still butted together and stagger the gap on each rail to different sides of where the the expander is butted together. Hal

unless otherwise stated always put dimple on ring twards top of piston.I personally like to place ring gaps 180 degrees apart horizontally or on the non thrust part of piston or cylinder wall.with the top ring gap being as far away from spark plug as is possible.Paul
