I guess this is off topic, '95 Chevy 4.3 questions...

My daily driver/farm truck(I do have a 1 ton gasser that gets started very little) is a 95 Chevy, 4wd, WT with the 4.3 and a 5 speed. It's the throttle body, not CPI and it's pretty weak. It's still a good truck, runs good other than being a little weak. I was considering an engine swap to a 5.7, but a buddy who is a a lot better mechanic suggested changing to the center point injectors. He seemed to think it'd give me what I needed and would'nt be near as expensive or such a big under-taking. Now I know it still wouldn't be anything like the 5.7, but how much improvement would I see over the throttle body?? Any input would be a great help.

unless someone changed it it should be the vortec engine.I think they went to that in 93 or 94 it may look like a throttle body but it may be multi point inj. That enging really needs the platinum plugs to preform best. I could be wrong about the vortec but if it a vortec it is multi point inj.

95 was an odd 4.3 engine. It used a single batch fire central injector with six lines down to each port nozzle.
That injector tended to mess up and cost $300-$500 depending on after market or GM.
The wife had one and it was great until 240,000km when it was hit. Among other things it riled up fuel system crud and bunged the injectors.
The local illiterate retards at the Napa engine rebuild shop found ways to totally ruin three rebuilt engines. Wrong main bolts, wrong balancer bearings and miss timed the cam.
If the father inlaw hadn't been working there in another division. The goofs would have been in court.

I have the vortech 4.3 with central port injection in a 95 S-10. If you compare the throttle body 4.3 with the central port it is 190 horse versus 150 or 160 anyway it is a very noticible difference. I might add it is a expensive luxury at about 125000 you have to spend 300.00 to 500.00 on the injection system.
On the other hand I have 260,000 miles on it and it has the origional motor and tranny so really can't complain. It gets pretty tough use also.

On that injection unit it is the fuel regulator that fails. The regulator is connected to the injector unit in the manifold. If you pull the manifold top you will see the passenger side of the intake washed clean from the regulator leaking fuel. You can buy the regulator on ebay fro about $40 and it should resolve rough idle poor gas milage problem that shows up on that 4.3 around 100k miles.

I don't know what's wrong with yours but,I had a '96 work truck with the 4.3 vortec. Best dern truck I've ever owned. Plenty of power and I had 250,000 miles on it when I traded with no problems.

I think some of the guys are getting the cpi 4.3(w) as found in 95 S-10's confused with your 95 4.3TBI(Z) engine in the 1/2 ton W/T.

Anyway,it can be done, but I'd stay with the TBI 350 due to simplicity. The 96 and up 350 has a totally different wiring harness under the hood and dash.PCM is under the hood on 96 and up.Under the dash on yours.Unless you have a complete donor vehicle, forget it.

Stick with the TBI fuel sys and you'll get it done in a weekend. You'll need the 350 rad shroud, radiator, hoses,ECM to name a few things.you might have to lengthen a few cables and wires, but most will reach.

i have the same truck as you except its a 1990. but 4.3 and 5 speed. yea it never had much power. it blew at 209000 miles a few months ago and im in the process of putting a 350 in it. it bolts right up but you'll need a 350 computer and radiator, and maybe motor mounts. best of all the donor truck was only $300

my truck used to have a 4.3 V-6 in it.that was before i bought it now it has a carberted 350 in it. it is the same danged truck as my dad's...both '91 silverado's with a 5 speed man. trans. i can deffinetly tell the difference from dad's truck to mine...like night and day but his is a little better when it's cold then my carbruater! i know you wouldn't gain anything as far as milage goes but if you ever need the power, it's there. think it would be more hassel though, having to get the V-8 computer and rad. mine still has the rad. i guess it all depends on how much you wanna spend
