International 1586. How much will it pull??

I am looking for a bigger tractor for my farm. I found a IH 1586. I was wondering how big of a disk it will pull? I would also be pulling a packer as well. I dont want to buy a bigger disk and not be able to pull it. Thanks in advance

Probably one of the most underrated tractors we had two on the big farm a 77 and 78 machine 12 speeds and 6 reverse was kind of unhandy versus the 16 speed 8 reverse 1486 when pulling a 16 row planter backing up in to corners. We had both dynoed before selling them bying new replacements the 77 was cranking 185hp at the pto and the 78 was cranking 175hp they were monsters using 20.8X38 bias tires. Two things one is when we sold them with 3800 and 3500 hours the new owners complained about rearend ovehauls due to brake shavings getting into the rearend and damaging gears and bearings which they were told by the IH dealer that was common for the planetary gear wet brake tractors IH made i.e. 1566, 1568 and 1586 after 3000hrs so beware other wise I think with radial tires and proper weights it can stay with the best of them. We pulled a 20' Brillion cultimulcher and IH presswheel drill with one and a 16 row 30" 7000 JD planter front fold with the other as far as a disc size for drilling wheat we worked the ground with a 30'IH disc. My dad worked for a guy in his retirment that had a 14 and a 1586. Both were turned up for all they were worth and the fifteen was a joke in my dads and the rest of the helps opinion when compared to the 14 .

He said on the plow or on the chopper, disk, whatever, there was always the wrong gear ratio missing on the 15. So they used the 15 for grinding feed, or pto work. That was more than satisfactory as the boss agreed. The fifteen seemed to maybe be a little more troubles also. The guy had 806's 856's and 1086s and just about every IH made as well. The least favorite was all time 15. It ended up at a young neighbors and then turned into a puller. That did not last so long as it got tore up on the track. It was advertized as a complete rebuild before he sold it into MN. I watched it at our local fair with four different drivers and when it came to power hoping, they had no intentions of backing off. Guys used to just shake their heads when they saw how they abused the ol girl.

The IH 1586 has only got the 1 2 3 gears. Not the 1 2 3 4 gears like the 1486.

We need to know more about what kind of disc you have or are planning on buying and what you want to do with it. My cousin has a JD 4040 that can pull a light 24 ft disc, and a 10 ft disc he bought from some road contractor that can work his 4X4 Stieger hard.
