I have a JD R. I can not get it to run. It doent look like there is enough diesel going to it. The supply line has a full stream from the tank to the filter, the line from the glass bowl to the pump also has a full stream, but when i take the line off the pump back to the filter (while the tractor is turning over) there is no presure or very very little, and the tractor wont start. I have cleaned the bowl and it has pretty new filters. It will start on either. does anybody have any advice?

Don't you just love those wise asses that reply, "service manuel" when you ask a question? By the way, Kentb of SWMO, "manuel" as in, "service manuel" is spelled m-a-n-u-a-l.
Try spell check next time!

when i had an R i had the same problem.had to take the pump apart and replace the ball and spring. maybe i had to change more than one.i dont remember that much about the pump.suffering from CRS you know.

better yet get the factory AND the IT manuals.I have seen some tips in IT manuals that weren't in the factory service manual. All in all though the factory service manual blows the doors off of the IT manual. Bill M.

Can't remember exactly, as my manual has disappeared, but I believe you should have something like 9-15 psi on the output of the pump. Seals were leaking on mine and the drive gear shaft was pretty worn which kind of chewed up the inside of the cover plate. New gear & shaft($150), new seals, and a little machining on the cover and works like a charm. You should still get flow with the line disconnected even if your pressure relief is leaking, you just won't get any pressure. I would imagine it won't come gushing out at cranking speed though. I'd take the pump off and have a looksee. At least check the press relief and make sure the drive tang is still there to drive the pump. My $.02.
