I see lots of response to mice. How about
woodpeckers. A widow here has woodpeckers chewing
her house. What can I tell her. Thanks, Chuck

most likely she has ants or other insects in the siding of the house,,,, sometimes the coating applied to the house will have a salt like base & may attract woodie pecker and his buddies

I agree its most likely an area with bug's, try spraying with an insect killer or bleach, vinegar.
And see if that drives it away before a deadly approach Thhhhhhhhhhhats all Folks

I also had woodpeckers pecking at my all wood home. Until, drum roll please-------------++++++++++++++++++????????????? I bought Tempo SC insecticide and I use it around the foundation/base of the siding of my home to kill the bugs that were in the siding, POOF! no more wood peckers.

Tell her to buy a BB gun and have some fun! My cousin once had a cardnal that would keep smashing into the window. He got it with a 12 gauge.

P.S.
Woodpecker are bad for trees. They peck at trees to get bugs and the holes they leave can get germs in them and kill the tree.

One of my former o-workers has a pair of these Pielated woodpeckers near his house in a wooded area. They usually raise a pair of checks every year. They never bother his house. Hal

I agree with the others. If there weren't bugs she wouldn't have woodpeckers. An exterminator is probably in order. Also, check how much damage the bugs have done, she could have a real problem.

Does she have a transformer inside the house in the area that the birds are working? Some transformers make a noise that the birds mistake for insects.

the local peckers go after our cedar siding, no bugs involved, maybe they are making noise to attract mates (drumming), one neighbor has holes big enuf for woodchucks to nest

I got roll of flashy mylar tape at TSC, rigged up hangers using 14 inch fishing leaders and metal joist brackets, hung them so they could swing where they were pecking

the non-persistent ones do not like the movement and flash and stay away

a steady dose of 1,000 fps .177 took care of the persistent ones

When we had 80 acres in southern Oregon we had one of those he would make a tree ring so loud that you could here it all over the mountain side. Beautiful bird.

Thank you each one. Now I am going to consult with her and TAKE ACTION. She probably won't like
the shotgun approach as she lives in the suburbs.
Thanks again, Chuck
