Kind of a rant , I was bidding on an item , got outbid . I figured I was out of it , bought item elsewhere . I get e-mail from E-bay . Bidder retracted his bid, thus making me high bidder again . Auction is too near the end , e-bay would not let me retract my bid . I e-mailed seller , informing him I purchased item elsewhere . I offered to play his listing fee's if I won it. Auction went down to the wire , 34 seconds to go and someone finally outbid my bid !!! whew . E-bay told me that ALL bids were active till end of auction ! Learned something there i guess. Don;t agree with it however. I figure once your outbid, walk away ,,just like at any other auction . Not E-bay ! They said I should have waited till auction was over before I purchased Item eleswhere ,,what a crock!

Why were you not allowed to retract your bid (according to EBay) but the highest bidder was ?
It sounds like shill bidding to me.

E-bay told me bids cannot be retracted within 12 hours of auction close . I told them I'd be shopping on Craig's list alot more now .

Yes ,,I guess I do . I thought I had , but missed the active till close part . I thought I might give others a heads up on it also . Thanks for pointing that out to me .

Yes,,I know about E-bay and C/L ,,but seems to be less hassles, as long as you sift through the scammer ! lol I think I have over 120,000 in bogus Cashiers checks for items I had for sale over the years . Pretty easy to spot the scammers

Every day we learn a little more on how this Ol! world works don't we.

PS don't blame EBay they have to have some rles or the whole thing will collapse.

I had somewhat the opposite happen. I placed my bid for the max I wanted to spend on that particular item, and 2 days later I was outbid, so I went looking for a similar item, found it, placed my bid, and again was outbid. I felt the second item was worth a bit more, so I upped my bid, only to realize that due to some glitches in the system, I had mistakenly raised my bid on the first item which I did not want. I WAS able to cancel the second bid on the wrong item, but somehow or another, eBay canceled ALL of my bids on that first item, which was good for me, but it sure the heck was NOT fair to the seller
of that first item.

If your outbid your not bound to purchase anything. If the high bidder retracts his bid they lower the price 1 dollar under what you bid,so you have to bid again to win. They can't back up on you, otherwise everyone would bid on there own items then back out.

Here recently I've had two bids rejected by ebay at the last second(s) when my bid, on both items, were higher than the winning bids. On both I was told my bids were not accepted due an "outage" (whatever the hell that ment) by ebay. My bids were submitted well before the auction ended. Wonder what's going on. I really wanted to win those bids. I've just about had it with ebay
