1- just wondering what the average rate is for applying liquid hog manure? 2- and also is any other N-P-K generally required when planting corn or beans? 3- a custom spreading outfit told me also that if i spread right now that i would have to atleast disc it in or it wouldnt be woth it (leaching, run off?)any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks

By rate are you tanlking about how many tons per acre? As long as your soil test doesn't exceed 150ppm of phosphorus there isn't a limit although practicality enters the equation some where. You need a test of the manure to determine the nutrient value. You will probably need some supplemental nitrogen and potassium but I can't make a recommendation without a soil test and a manure test. You will also need to apply lime to offset the acidity of the manure. The manure does need to be injected or incorporated to preserve the nitrogen value, phosphorus and potassium doesn't matter, but runoff is an issue.

Depends too on how hog farmer is handling manure, how much water added to flush ,etc. You really need to have some tests done to get difinitive answers here. Check with your county extension office, they can probably handle your questions.

First of all you need an analysis of the NPK that is in the manure. Done that for years from 1985-2001 when we quit dairy with the liquid pit. Custom pumper did the tests, tried to hold the app to 5000 gallons per acre. Usually ended up with about 180 lbs N per acre, and about half of remaining is available each year. Hog manure is likely more N intensive- need the tests to determine that, along with rate per acre. Over the years, covered all 400 owned acres, no additional fertilizer on applied corn acres, except maybe 80 pounds starter with the planter- cold wet Springs in MN.

Respectfully totally disagree on one point- unless it is injected upon application or within a day- the N does gas off. That is what smells. We always injected as applied- at 500 gpa the field would be to smeary to disk it within a day. We knifed in right next to the house and couldn't smell anything. Very definitely gasses off from the surface.
