I have a 1948 8N front mount and well she is old. I have new points and the # 4 plug will not fire all the time. I have adjusted the points to fire all 4 clys. My question is can I file a slot ont of the screws to adjust the new points to fit the shaft. The new points will not even touch the shaft. about an 1/8 away and nothing will fire . Maybe #3. Has it been done before. I bent the point holder to get a gap between the points. I cannot aford to by a new shaft.I* was hoping to file a slot on either side so the points will rotate and the part would ride on the shaft. help!!! Dell

WOW ,Sounds like way too much wear on shaft ,or wrong points,or Idon't quite understand how you are trying to fix the problem.Mabey someone else can give you some pointers.Good luck.

Well either you distributor shaft has wore out or you are buying cheap from the country of not always right parts. I would try a good brand of points not a cheap set and see if thats where your problem is. Something like a set of B/W or blue stricke. Cheap point will work about 30% of the time but the good higher priced one work a lot better

STOP! Pull your head out of yout a$$ and read a manual so you have a remote clue what you are doing and/or talking about.
Either that or run for president...

Sounds like you need new distributor bushings and a QUALITY set of breaker points.
