oliver 1855 diesel

I have an 1855 oliver diesel that keeps blowing head gasket I have had the head milled and it still does it. It blows on the out side edge.
Any one have an answer

Have you checked the block for flatness (or crack) in the area of the leak(s)?? Since you milled the head you might try installing two head gaskets and torquing properly, run at operating temperature, then retorque (couple times). You gained a little (compression) by milling and you"ll give it back by using two gaskets. Might be worth a try. Let us know. bob f.

There was a guy near here that bought one of those brand new. I started doing that right from the start. An old JD mechanic discovered that the head bolts weren't threaded far enough. When they torqued it down, before it would come down as far as it should have, they would run out of threads. They took some thick washers from a 4020 Deere head and put them on it and solved the problem.

Leaking coolant or compression??

check dept of boltholes, could be debris in it. run a tap trough all holes and blow clean.clean bolts as well
check the sleeves for looseness and for proper hight protrusion out of block.check block for flatness and cracks.

check your sleeve standout, you will never hold a gasket if it is not within specs. crush on the fire ring seals the comp.

DO NOT put in 2 gaskets, chamber is flat so if you shaved an inch off the head comp. would stay the same, the only factor that would affect it would be valve protusion which is important for good starting, make sure machine shop has specs. and is competent, 2 gaskets would drastically lower comp.adding .060 to .100 gasket thickness on a 3 7/8 bore is alot of volume

Mine pushed the top flange in the block down and the sleeve no longer could keep a correct stand out and their goes another head gasket.
