wd-45 popping on 1st cylinder

i have a wd-45 starts up runs on all cylinders fine except for the #1 cylinder(closest to starter). did a compression check and got 152. if you unhook #1 plug wire it will run smooth as soon as you hook up the #1 plug wire it will pop every few seconds and run rough, thought maybe electrical problem but but new electronic ignition new distributor cap and rotor and still no change. any ideas what this could be?

My first reaction is the same as IH2444..air is getting in..crack or bad gasket?...now air will cause that but there are other things too like a bad plug sticking valve or even timing

First lets teach you a thing or 2. #1 is by the radiator and #4 is closes to the seat. Now then as for the pop it could be many things. A valve problem a bad bushing in the distributor, a bad distributor cap or a good number of other things. By the way 99% of in line engine #1 is by the radiator and #4 to the back of the engine

Could be just a bad sparkplug wire,or bad plug.Check the simple cheap fix first. Then the aww this is gonna cost last.

That "popping" noise comes from the valve train and the problem is on the intake side.

Could be a flat cam, bent push rod, broken spring, lost keepers, etc., etc.

Pull the cover and take a peek. You'll find it.

Lets teach you something, rather than just tell you. The convention adopted by engineers many years ago was that all engines were numbered with number one at the timing end, the place where the camshaft is driven by the crank. Nothing to do with the radiator or seat.

All items position marked (big-end/main caps, rods) were all marked on the camshaft (timing) side only.

That way all engineers knew what was what. Of course, there are always exceptions and Honda motorcycle engines with overhead cam, chain driven from the centre of the crank, come to mind.....
