Speaking To The Economy

Our orders were up last week and we have had a good two days this week. Not sure if it will hold but with the new orders we will have a good October. We even picked up a new customer that shows promise. If the orders keep coming at this rate we will have to hire more people. Two weeks production on one machine of this months producton will be exported.

Thought it might help some to see that every thing is not gloom and doom.

I nnalert politician was on TV the other day claiming unemployment figures for this month will be in the double digits.

For those of us not familiar with your operation/product, it"d be helpful to know what you mfr/process/design/fabricate etc.
There"re always winners, losers and those relatively untouched whatever direction the economy"s going in; it"s nice to hear from someone who"s OK. Good luck.

Has nothing to do with voting. Has to do with facts and that you do not see in the press. Small manufactures in the tens of thousands are dirt under the the feet of so many and if I hire one or two people it will mean nothing to those that think that GM or Ford has to hire for it to count.
I was 90% automotive for ten years. In 1994 I dumped all automotive jobs and have been better off for it.

Dick,

I'm in the herbicide spray business, and we are looking to have the best October/Nov/Dec in a long time. Normally this is a slow time for us, but we have over $500k in new contracts to get done this winter, I'll count myself and my 25 employees very fortunate.

I would vote for Bush again. The faltering economy was not caused by George Bush -- more like by idiot whiners who think the Federal Goverment should and can control economic policy and therfore vote for socialists such as the majority of our congress.

We manufacture tile guards for one of our customers and with the higher crop prices his sales have gone up. A lot of field tile going in in our area.

Dick, our business here is down, but that's because we aren't building airplanes due to the machinists strike. However, since I know I'm gonna be travelling soon, I've checked the seat availability on some flights from here to NYC and here to LA, and it looks like airplanes are still full, and most of that travel is business travel. Probably not as many bankers and brokers flying nowadays, but I'm guessing there's still tons of sales, marketing, customer support, etc people out there, busy as heck, as usual.

If the news media wasn't telling us every night that things are bad would you think things are bad? Makes you wonder if there is an agenda.

Dick...........I hope you don't take this wrong, but it's apparent that you have only a limited grasp of the way the economy works; may I suggest that you lay off one fourth of your employees; cry doom and gloom to the remaining ones; cut your advertising budget by 90 per cent, etc. Within 6 months, your business will have gone all-to-hail and you'll see that I'm right. :>)

I do have a thick skin and never take offence to those that judge my intelligence or ability to understand how business works after 32 years of making payroll every week of those 32 years.

My son works for corporate John Deere, mainly with their big quarter million dollar sprayers.

The have already sold out all of their 2009 production, cant make enough machines to meet the demand.

If we do get in a recession, which we are not yet, it will be because of the media. All a recession is, is lack of confidence. After getting bombarded by 24/7 doom and gloom, who would not be down in the dumps. The media loves to do this, if they can create bad economic times, it helps the nnalert.

If a recession does come, I am not going to participate!!

You're right about the media. Most of this economic crisis is the media whipping up hysteria, causing fear and panic and making things worse. The same voyeristic mentality that loves gory car accidents. Jackals, all of them, Hyenas.

Hello Dick L
Had the pleasure of meeting you this summer when moving an allis engine block for a young man.Glad to hear times are good.

Good on you Dick, and I think you make a good point about the barrage of doom and gloom we get from the media.

Having a free media is important to democracy but we have gotten to the point where we have too many reporters, just like we have too many lawyers, accountants and lobbiest.

By-the-way, I was looking for some soft rubber, roller blade type wheels to make a fishing rod roller for applying epoxy to custom rods and re-builds. Would you mind sending me a dozen rejects? LOL

Same with my place, we have loads and loads of work. I alone will be on Overtime for 3-4 more months.

Gee you "made" payroll ?

Hum last night Oboma said businesses had to go get a loan to make payroll. Anyone catch this ?
My first thought was if they have to get a loan to make payroll they aren't making any money.

Rant - I am sick and tired of the media trying to sway the election through media bias. Example - CBS"s Early Show (7:00 am) yesterday showed Harry Smith at the site for the debate. There was a crowd of people behind him. Every single one of them had external_link signs. Regardless of who you are voting for, that was a free political ad for external_link and CBS to be fair and unbiased, should not have allowed any signs.

I caught that too. Of course, external_link has never had to make payroll, he's only been a parasite on one. I know I would expect more than 140 days, give or take, over almost 3 years from any of my employees.

You might, in a way, end up voting for nnalert. She went away far too easily and has been way to quiet during this campaign. Look for her to get a seat on the Supreme Court, if external_link wins.

It was my pleasure. Your pleasure might have been more pleasurable if I would have had my phone turned on. I still feel bad about making you wait.

Man You do not know the facts or history !!!!!,,that is the last fool you need in office ,,,Clinton is the one that lowered the underpants on banking regulations,Because of nafta , we got da shafta,,,All the out of work factory guys went to work building houses all over our good farmland and gave them to people that could not afford to pay for a home ,, loans were made by bankers with their tushes hang out , because the feds demanded they make such loans ...........arrrghhh

Back in January I moved 80% of my 401K out of stocks and into Money Market Accounts. I figured with the election coming we'd hear nothing but "the worst economy in a century" and "We're all gonna die" unless a certain party got into the White House. Either the last week of October or the second week of November I'll put it back into stocks.

Only wish I'd done it with 100% instead of only 80%.

Home furnishing manufacture trimmed back- I can consider myself 'Early retired' along with about 50 others. Things may pick up a bit in January, I'm not going to worry about it. external_links health care talking about no precluding pre-existing conditions may get a test if my cancer checkups show some more. The events in DC and Wall St that have occurred the last week will be awhile hitting the economy as a whole but rest assured they will have a dramatic effect.

ths is a good economy for setting up IRA's. if your more then 10 years from retirement, mutual funds are great prices right now.

i've been selling parts left and right. I've got a perfact reputation and i always beat whatever price i can find on something. Still have about 1/2 a C left.

Not the whole econemy has slowed down.

I'd like to once more thank you two for that.

Hows that massey coming??? Looked like a nice project at 2 am :)

I agree except the ones I dont like are for McCain on the Fox news I usually watch in the morning for the weather,as if we need more of the same crap we have now.Makes me so mad at times and I know its a bunch of lies.

And didn't you love how Rich's guitar sound was accidently cut out during the song? And then how condescendingly Harry said the crowd may not like the song because they were all Osama supporters. And then let them chant for a while after the song.

Trucker 40 your replies are getting short enough to be read in less than a minute! Congratulations are in order! Keep watching Fox, and soon, you will be agreeing with the majority of America, and might actually have some real concrete facts to base your views on. You report, we'll decide!

DIY Dave, well thanks for the compliment!I watch for the weather because its on 5 minutes before the other channel.I listen to BBC and watch websites like Rense and Alex Jones,Coast to Coast. If you want to pull your head out of the sand and try and figure out whats going on there is lots you can find that are way closer to the truth than Faux, even PBS is better if you want to get real news.Fox is not news its propaganda, and its easy to see that, but I like to kind of keep an eye on them now and then to see what lies they are trying to spread.Once you figure that much out,its easier to find real news. Also Fox is very good at spreading propaganda, thats why you think you know something by watching it.Once you find out how big a fool they are trying to make out of you,you will be mad.Fox is making a fool out of the public for evil people, that parts easy. The truth is hard to figure out,but not impossible.

Trucker40 - DiyDave was trying to be nice and you came back with more of your babble, babble, babble. Please see the doctor - you need help.
bob farrell

Bob Farrel,OK he was being nice.I dont get what was babble, except what you said, which is always the same thing.Wrong!

DIY Dave kind of is not too bad even if I disagree with him.I dont always write real long answers either.
